Subject description: click fraud scheme exploiting browser extensions in compromised systems

Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the Internet we have a report that Google has removed browser extensions with 500,000 downloads from the web store because they were malicious. At this point the exploit appears to require a compromised system, but those are less than a dime a dozen.

Note the motivation here: this was being used to defraud Google for advertising revenue. Would Google have taken prompt action if it only hurt individuals?

Let's see, you can't trust hardware, operating systems, office applications and browsers. Some security software is also suspect. Some updates will brick some machines. That pretty well covers the waterfront.

Have a nice day! Twisted Evil
