Hi mastoo; Try the keyboard setup at:
[Start or Menu] > Setup > Mouse/keyboard Wizard

That is if you haven't tried it already...
I've had mixed luck with trying to remap the keyboard, but hopefully you'll have better luck!

Sunburnt, it isn't that Mastoo can't set the keyboard to italian, it's just that Puppy isn't providing him with the full set of characters that are accessed by AltGR- on most non-US keyboards.

For the record, similar issues happen with the fr_CH and fr_DE keyboards in Puppy.

Well then I am very lucky.
I have the full dead-key support for my Belgian keyboard from the version 1.08 on, with which I started in Puppy.

The only ( ) thing I don't have support for is all the other functions keys like mute, vol +, vol -, internet, e-mail

As I understood in another thread, the key-scan code has to be found and an action attached to it, like e-mail -> open e-mail program. But that's another story.

But as far I have seen from the Italian keyboard, the braces aren't on it anyway, so that's why mastoo asked for the method with 'ALT 123' as he is used to in Windows.

So the question is: does Puppy support this method of entering a character?

if the multi key is not enabled, you could set the right alt key to be the multi key by typing:

xmodmap -e 'keycode 113 = Multi_key'

or put this in /root/.Xmodmap:

keycode 113 = Multi_key

then you can press and release the right Alt key, then press and release e then press and release ' to get the
