I am not saying ext4 is no good to use.

Just I use ext 3 for Puppies, because some of the Puppy programs were written before full ext 4 support was in Puppy.
These programs just handle ext 3 better.

Keep in mind.
Code in Puppy only updates when someone volunteers to work on it.

Example:
With Fatdog64 720 and using Grub4dos boot loader.
It boots faster on a ext 3 format install than an ext 4 format.
Something to do with how Grub4dos searches for stuff on a ext 4 format and how Fatdog is configured.

This happened to me when I tried to make a puppy with Slackware 13.37:

it doesn't let me mount ext4 and thinks it's ext3

Maybe the original Slacko 5.3.3 works better and I forgot to do something or messed something up at the time though.

This info is from working on and with Puppy for years.

I am not totally convinced that ext 4 is totally bug free.

Ext 3 - 7 bugs.
Ext4 - 74 bugs.

The newest Puppies should be updated to handle ext 4, but Puppy program code updates only really get tested by we the users using them.

Puppy does not have one of these testing departments.

It' the kernel job to read and write the filesystem - apps have nothing to do in this department.

Many bugs in ext4 and only a few in ext3: nobody works with ext3 since a few years, everybody uses ext4 ö that's the reason that more bugs are found.

This is Puppy.
Puppy is not a normal Linux OPS.
A lot of stuff is done the Puppy way.

So, by your reasoning.
The more you use a format the buggier it will be

Could it be that ext3 has been around, long enough, for most all of the bugs have been fixed.

Nothing new to find!!

Limitations

In 2008, the principal developer of the ext3 and ext4 file systems, Theodore Ts'o, stated that although ext4 has improved features, it is not a major advance, it uses old technology, and is a stop-gap.

This was 10 years ago.

Do what you want, but in my experience ext4 is more stable and - in case of a crash - much faster.

Anyway, back to the problem:

Ich got another wifi-card: ATHEROS AR5006XS G+ 108 Mbit/s MINI PCI WLAN-Karte. Works out of the box.

RemarK: Intel-Laptops do not work with Intel-Wifi-cards ...
