How to Activate ACE-Solitaire.swf? [SOLVED]

#1 Post by Sky Aisling »

Hi All, :)

Machine: HP HDX premium Series 4GB RAM dual Intel CPU T9400

I'm reconstructing an install of Tahrpup64.6.0.5.
See background of install here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=112729

Normally when I download ACE-Solitaire.swf from Puppy Package Manager the .swf auto-boots into the Pale Moon browser.
Today I'm presented with the question "What should Pale Moon do with this file?"
Defaultmediaplayer is listed as the 'open with' app, but, VLC rejects opening the .swf file. I've tried multiple 'other' choices without winning a Teddy bear yet.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Here's a hint Sky, drag the game into your browser, then the option will show.

Hello, Sky Aisling.

You call it from your browser with the following command, like a web site, except
it is local. Instead of http://, you have file://localhost and then the usual path.

I have this game at /usr/local/ACE-Solitaire and I call it like so:
file://localhost/usr/local/ACE-Solitaire/ACE-Solitaire.swf

This is my html bookmark for it:

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
<!--This is an automatically generated file.
It will be read and overwritten.
Do Not Edit! -->
<TITLE>Signets</TITLE>
<H1>Signets</H1>
<DL><P>
    <HR>
        <DT><A HREF="file://localhost/usr/local/ACE-Solitaire/ACE-Solitaire.swf" ADD_DATE="1440143623" LAST_VISITED="1518326801">ACE-Solitaire</A>
</DL><P>
In any browser, you need to have Flash installed for it to play.

IHTH.

Thank you for the hint, matchpoint

I opened a new tab in Pale Moon 27.7.2(64 bit) and drug the ACE-Solitaire.swf onto the open tab. Same question, "What should pale Moon do with this file?".
Where else would I drag the .swf to?

Go back into Palemoons`Application preferences and change it to use Shockwave Flash (in Pale Moon).

Then go right-click a SWF game and set the run action.

Drag PaleMoon in from /usr/bin or wherever it is on your system.

Does clicking Mushers link open the game on your computer?

Your path might be a little different if it doesn't, but if it does, bookmark it.

I also downloaded 'getjava' cringing as I did as I've heard Java is a swell way to let bugs into the system. Yes? No?

Did Musher's suggestion work?

No, see previous post: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 235#983235 However, I'm not sure I did it right. Musher's suggestions usually work good. :)

Use PaleMoons`File, Open File... dialog to open your game, then bookmark it once open.

Should I delete the JAVA script that I just installed. Is it necessary?

No. Java's entirely different from JS and not required for what you're doing here.

If it's what I think it is you should reboot then look for it in SFS_load.

Now if you don't plan on using it, unload it. The build script should have left it in /opt.

There is nothing showing in /opt concerning JAVA script.
Nor in /tmp as I've rebooted.

Isn't SFS-Load just for .sfs files?

Good Gravey, Charlie Brown!
I just did a search on 'JAVA' within Tahrpup64 system.
JAVA is all over Puppy.
There are pages of 'JAVA' finds.
Hummm?

Perhaps the old saying 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' applies here. :shock:
