Olive Video Editor for Linux

#1 Post by MrDuckGuy »

Hello Forum,

I've been using Openshot Video Editor, up to now, which is great for shorter
media files.

I recently found out about 'Olive' video editor, which is free, open source,
multiplatform and also works on Linux:

Has anyone tried this with Puppy? Can it work on Puppy?

Thanks in advance, Kelikaku B'H.

Thank you for the information.

I looked at Olive downloads page site.
https://github.com/olive-editor/olive/r ... continuous

I downloaded 64 AppImage build.
https://github.com/olive-editor/olive/r ... 4.AppImage

After the download completed I right clicked the file in Rox filer and changed permissions to
"a+x (Make executable/searchable)".

Olive AppImage woks out of the box in Quirky Beaver64 version 8.7.1.

App Image opened in Debian Dog Stretch 64 bit too.

There was a disclaimer that it was an alpha version that still had bugs.

If you check the Home page for the project there's a huge alpha symbol and the disclaimer:

I got it working in Tahrpup64v6.0.6, but setting
the permissions made no difference, even when I
set them to "non-executable" it still ran. The
funny thing is, that the 32-bit version runs in
Tahrpup64 but the 64-bit version won't.

It isn't very ready for release, as you've noted.
The preview window wasn't active for me, and the
program crashed very easily. It seems to have a
very good interface, it's a little nicer than
the Openshot interface. Openshot's a little
buggy but it doesn't really crash too much and
I can work with it.

I couldn't get Olive to load in several other
Puppys; UpupBB 18.05, LXpupsc64 19.01,
UpupCC 18.10. I may try to see if it performs
better in another environment if I can get it to
load again.

Thanks for the feedback. B'H.
