You literally can't make this stuff up....is there no level of bottom-dwelling stupidity gov'ts can stoop too??

"The US government has been left red-faced after it emerged that its Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has failed for over a decade to verify passports are authentic because it has not been able to properly read their built-in smart chip....

....CBP lacks the technical capabilities to verify e-Passport chips.....

...The security fail comes amid a renewed attempt by the Trump administration to act tough on border control.....
"

WTH good is/would a Border Wall do if we can't even validate, coming in and going out, or own citizens' travels? It's unbelievable...... Crying or Very sad

Laughing You made my day, belham2!

I know this is sad for the US, but as a situation, the great Moliere himself could
not have written a funnier comedy!!!

On the one hand you have a president clamouring that he wants to send illegal
immigrants to hell, and at the other end of the command chain, you have a Border
Administration with zero computer literacy.

First the Democrats stood in the way of his immigration policy; then some judges;
now Border Agent stupidity!

Will this ever end? Poor president Trump... Wink

Very much like at my place, the transport authority issues "Smart Cards" for vehicles and Driving Licenses.
Those are supposed to contain all data about the owner.

But Traffic Cops on road don't have the "smart card" readers to check them.
So they are useless.

The US has had this problem from the very beginning.

Congress passes a law or bill that makes everyone feel good and think they did something.
When it comes time to allocate the money to pay for it.
That seems to not make it into the budget bill that pays for everything.

US Congress at work:
Quote:
The senators argued that “it is past time” for the features to be utilized, and urged the agency to work with experts to calculate the costs before developing and implementing a plan to validate the digital signatures in smart passports.

Maybe we need to find out what it will cost Shocked Laughing

There was test sites implemented at various locations.

I wonder if some of the issues talked about here have anything to do with. It was a good idea, but!

This is all old school and outdated stuff. Shocked
You know everything is just going to be on your phone!

Passengers departing from Dubai International Airport can now use their smart phones at the smart gates instead of their passports as part of a new service called Smart UAE Wallet.

What phone??
You mean the one that gives away all your private information to every sensor you walk past??
No thanks!
I carry a mobile phone, but that is ALL it is - by design.

This reminds me of my attempt to do "on-line vehicle registration". You go to the secure website and fill out your payment info, confirm addy, and name. They tell you its a match to Registration and Liscense provided... payment accepted.

Then they send a confirmation e-mail with your complete liscence number printed!

Can't make this stuff up! More stupid gov't tricks!

Regards

Passports are still verifiable via conventional methods, they just don't have the scanning from afar implemented yet.

USA is a bit behind the new world order schedule to implement the mark of the beast.

Weaning process, put the lobster in a pot of cold water, slowly turn up the heat until dead.

So the chips start in the passport, morphs to ->: why not put the RFID chips with your passport
info under your skin? It will be so-o-o convenient.

The question is, so-o-o convenient for whom?
