Hiya, peebee.

Coupla questions for ya, if you don't mind...

1 ) How do I change the Menu title 'Applications' back to 'Menu'? /root/.jwmrc-tray no longer seems to have anything in it..!

2 ) How can I shut off the startup 'jingle'? Puppy's starting to get a bit too much like Windoze for my liking... Laughing

And, last (but not least):-

3 ) How can I reset things so that by scrolling on the desktop, it'll cycle through my workspaces again? I know a lot of you hate this 'feature', preferring the 'traditional' way of clicking on the pager to switch worktops, and there's been various threads as to how to stop it happening, but I'm not one of those people. I happen to like it, and find it actually speeds up my workflow. I'm aware of it all the time, I know it happens, therefore it never catches me by surprise... Is this controlled by JWM, or by ROX?

(I know MochiMoppel posted on a thread a couple of years ago about this, but I'm hanged if I can find it. Can't even remember what the thread was about...)

Apart from these minor 'niggles', mate, you've excelled yourself with this one. Well done.

Cheers.

Hi Mike

1: edit /usr/share/jwm/tray_templates/Puppy/jwmrc-tray2 then force a theme change with Desktop -> Puppy theme manager
2: either delete or remove execute permissions from /root/Startup/startup-sound
3: Desktop -> Desktop Settings -> Shortcuts -> Mouse actions -> set both scroll up and down to "Change desktop"

Hiya, peebee.

Thanks for those mate. Solutions 1,2 & 3 all working nicely.

1) Not surprising I couldn't find it; I'd have never thought of looking there.

2) That one I really ought to have spotted. D'oh... Rolling Eyes Embarassed

3) OK. Fair dos. Again, a different way of doing things. I first ran into this form of the Desktop settings manager with Micko's original 64-bit Slacko, 6.3.0.....and wasn't too sure about it then. Mostly, I use the JWM DeskManager, which comes as part of radky's PupControl packages; I've just gotten used to the way it does things. although I believe it writes to the older /etc/xdg/templates/root_.jwmrc file. From what I can see of things, Bionic uses that, but in a somewhat different way...

Anyway, things are now how I want them, so.....thanks again, mate. Cheers!

A: try edit /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/Options
<Option name="display_show_hidden">1</Option>

B: don't know I'm afraid (and don't have any BT to test) ....use PPM to search for packages with Bluetooth in their name and try installing them??

AFAIK mistfire is the only one having bluetooth working well (not only installed) but with x-Slacko slim. Once installed difficulty seems to be adjusting equipment to be recognized. Kind of IP similar on Transceiver (émetteur récepteur in French)

Subject description: can connect to localhost but not from remote machine

//EDIT: It was the hosts.allow file that I had to modify... Rolling Eyes

I have this problem with sshd: I can connect to localhost but any connection from outside fails.

Things I tried:

- disabling all firewalls

- tried ssh from different machines: ubuntu, puppy-xenial

- copied a working configuration (/etc/ssh/sshd_config) from another ubuntu machine

Still not working.

netstat reports the server as listening correctly to port 22

the logfile of ssh -vvv follows:

wyk72@wyk72-i7:~$ ssh -v spo@192.168.111.143

If I do a "telnet" on port 22 from remote I get no response from upupbb machine; on localhost I get the correct answer (SSH-2.0-OpenSSH prompt), so I think there's a security feature/lock/firewall somewhere: but I can't find it for the life of me.

nmap also reports the port 22 to be open on the upupbb machine.

Can someone gime me a hint ?

I installed the Ubuntu OpenSSH Packages from PPM:

openssh-server_7.6p1-4

Thanks...rox fixed....bluetooth does not play...most likely it's my adapter, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Another question....if I remaster should I copy all the extra sfs files into the build directory? The remaster script asks about compressing? one file....what steps should I use to remaster it?

We established in the other thread that your adapter works. You need to run the BT software on a compatible platform.

OK...I stand corrected.
BlueTooth does not run on Upup Bionic Beaver with either the solution you suggested or the one in this thread.

Changing a platform to use one non-essential piece of hardware makes no sense to me...and that's why I thanked you and peebee for you suggestions.

If I really need to use the bluetooth headphones and/or speaker, I'll simply use windows, where they work out of the box.

Hi.

Program/script sfs_load complains about missing gtk-update-icon-cache. Why isn't this installed by default as it was in older Puppies?

How to fix this?

Thanks.

Don't know why its disappeared....will add back for +2....
meanwhile:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/i386/gtk-update-icon-cache/download

seemed to become a separate package with artful....

Thanks peebee.

So, what do you recommend me to do: install gtk-update-icon-cache from Ubuntu or just download the new .iso (any other changes applied in .iso)?

Bonjour, peebee, rcrsn51 and everyone...

I can't get the bluetooth to work either and, I think this functionality is sorely lacking in this UPupBB otherwise so successful.

What a shame to have to go through windows to use a bluetooth accessory Mad .

On my side I tried all kinds of manipulations to make it work, without success because I don't have the skills for it.
Who would be able to look at the problem to find a solution? It would be a bit like "the icing on the cake" for this beautiful distribution.

Bien à vous, Best regards, petihar.
