2 annoying problems with Libreoffice - SOLVED
2 annoying problems with Libreoffice - SOLVED
I am using tahr frugal install - and have been for years.
I am using LO 6.0.4 sfs - and have been using LO for years.
Problem-1:
I have installed the latest 6.0.4 sfs including help files.
I have set tools->options->advanced to use jre (currently 1.8.0)
In my installation I have a 'help' subfolder with a further folder 'en-GB' and in that folder appears to be all of the required files for offline help.
However - when I click on Help, libreoffice help it tells me that "the libreoffice built-in help is not installed on your computer"
Problem-2:
I have set tools->options->security->security options and unchecked use 'ctrl-click required to follow hyperlinks"
However - when I insert a hyperlink into any document or sheet or presentation - the hyperlink shows as it should, but clicking on it does nothing.
Can anyone help with either of these problems please.

Testing in EasyOS 0.9.3 (a derivative of Puppy), it has LibreOffice 5.0.6.3.
No local help, but when I choose Help in the menu, it goes to a website with online help.
I created a hyperlink in a document, and ctrl-click on it brings it up in the web browser.
I have compiled the most recent LibreOffice, but it isn't installed right now.
I had a different problem with 5.0.6.3, got an error message when save/open a .odt file. The latest version fixed that.
See EasyOS news here:

i'm using the 604 pets available/described here (01micko's utility to grab the sfs and couple it with us help, TheAsterisk!'s utility to convert the sfs to pet), and help en-US works fine for me in 32 and 64 bit 604, though i can't get get the hyperlinks to work or find where to set what browser gets used (maybe it's a new security thing--i haven't used the feature in a while, but i recall it working in the past with no fiddling around).
not sure what to do about the hyperlinks not working, but maybe one of vicmz's help packs from the above link can fix your offline help issue.
1. The problem is caused by the language options set.
The help pack is for en-GB and the language option settings are probably for English (USA).
If you change the language options to English (UK) the off line help will work.
Did for me.
They should have put the en-USA help pack in the download not the en-GB one.
I guess you really need the en-USA help pack to correctly use English (USA) for language option.
Look at Options-Language settings-Languages. You should either change UI language there, of download appropriate help pack.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

You can get the en-(USA) help pack from here:
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/do ... lang=en-US
Download the one that is a deb package.
Just make sure to get the correct bit version (32 bit or 64 bit)
It will download as a tar.gz compressed package.
Unpack it.
The deb package you can click on to install will be inside.
Note:
Other languages are available on the main download page.
They have a LibreOffice for each language and the help pack.

Thanks bigpup - the language settings were the cause.

Still trying to work out the hyperlinks problem.
After a bit more research and thinking I believe the problem is related to the 'default browser' settings I have in my puppy installation.
LO does not have a setting to specify the browser to use, but simply uses the default browser.
I have got a few minor changes in my puppy, and at the moment:
(a) the Setup->Default Applications Chooser: HTML viewer points to /root/my-applications/programs/palemoon/palemoon
(b) the defaultbrowser file in /usr/loca/bin points to /root/my-applications/programs/firefox/firefox
If I execute xdg-open http://google.com from a terminal it opens it in firefox.
This is all I have at the moment .....is there something else I could investigate>

Some more digging....
When I execute LO from a terminal and then click on a hyperlink I get this ..
sh-4.3# ./swriter
sh: /usr/bin/xdg-open: No such file or directory
That is strange. xdg-open is part of the imbedded kernel commands isn't it? Why should it need a file in /usr/bin?
(you have already probably worked out that I am no puppy expert)
SOLVED!
In /usr/bin I created a symlink to /usr/local/bin/xdg-open
All working now. Thanks for the help.

Why does the swriter script use the full path anyhow? - totally unnecessary.mow9902 wrote: sh-4.3# ./swriter

Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.

Yeah, that worked for me to. The latest EasyOS, 0.9.4, has LO 6.0.4.2, and that fixed the ctrl-click on a hyperlink.mow9902 wrote:SOLVED!

However, the menu "Help -> Get help online..." does not work.
