Upgrade Questions 2.01 to 2.10r1

#1 Post by edoc »

If I use Puppy Univeral installer to upgrade 2.01 to 2.10r1 on my laptop
will the upgrade save the printer and wireless drivers?

I need to know if I have to plan on lots of down time to restore those
drivers or if working drivers will remain working drivers.

Also, if I want to add Win98SE for rare use do y'all advise WINE or a
dual-boot?

If a dual-boot do I need to wipe the HDD and start from scratch?

Thanks! doc

Unfortunately, I need Win98SE and Puppy on the same 20gig HDD.

Are these the correct steps?

1. Boot from Puppy 2.10r1 ISO CD
2. Wipe the HDD and format as FAT32.
3. Load Win98SE
4. Reboot from Puppy 2.10r1 ISO CD
5. Reduce FAT32 Partition to 10M
6. Add 8gig Ext2 Partition
7. Add 1.5gig Swap
8. Load Puppy 2.10r1 to HDD

Yes?

OR ...

1. Boot from Puppy 2.10r1 ISO CD
2. Wipe the HDD and format as EXT2 Partition
3. Add 1.5gig Swap
4. Load Puppy 2.10r1 to HDD
5. Load WINE and follow instructions for Win98SE functionality
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am going to presume that the answer to upgrading 2.01 to 2.10r1 will not
trash my wireless nic and printer drivers since no one has responded either
way. If not I will very unhappily reinstall them.

Thanks! doc

i never install Puppy as a full option 2 install ... i always do a frugal install:

To install Puppy:

1) copy 3 files from the iso to the hard drive

To upgrade to the newest version of Puppy:

1) copy 3 files from the iso to the hard drive

if you have enough ram, it seems to me that it's a lot easier

i install Puppy this way ... MU installs Puppy this way ... Pizzasgood installs Puppy this way

i think Lobster and Barry Kauler run directly from the CD, but it's almost the same thing

Are they on computers with multiple users, including children?

Does this not require that the CD be in the cd drive all the time, or at least whenever the
pc is powered up?

Why the reulctance to do a traditional full HDD install?

Is the thought that the HDD is only for the storage of data and not the OS?

What happens with drivers?

Thanks! doc
