Subject description: Want to know if this small laptop is worth buying

A local shop is selling Archos 140 Cesium at a good price, so I'm tempted.

It's got Windows 10 on by default, though. I'd rather use Puppy most of the time, preferably a recent 64 bit one.

Has anyone tried this model with Puppy? Ideally, I'd like to boot it off a Puppy USB stick.

Hi bushbuck,

Crowd-sourcing: One way to find out whether a computer can do something is to run a google-search using search terms likely to generate some relevant posts. You can follow that up later with more specific search terms.

Googling "Archos 140 Linux", generated the thread on which this post, #6, by CyrilB34 appears, https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1941471:

"Good evening, I bought this laptop. Good bill it is surprising. Unfortunately Windows 10 suffocates it and its pre-installed stuffs eat 20 GB of 28 SSDs out of 32 theoretical ones. All to do nothing. For a bar of spots and 4 icons. It's fucking .... Finally almost impossible to install dual with Ubuntu on the same ssd. So full formatting, no refund of license (source Archos) The worst is that I never managed to boot on the usb to start the install. In the end, return to the store. I took an HP. No refund of license either, but we can fire windows and install ubuntu easily from the usb." (Translated via google-translate, Emphasis supplied).

I usually follow up the initial hardware search with one specifying Ubuntu. My reasoning is that while Puppy's may be able to handle hardware even if Ubuntu can't, getting Puppy to do so will be an uphill battle.

I don't recommend "buying into problems" unless you have to.

Thanks, cthisbear and mike.

Maybe it's not such a bargain after all.
