Solved: full installation inquiry

#1 Post by memo »

hi,

I have installed some apps on the live usb, now i want to install everything on the hard. if i install it normally would my apps be there and the changes would exist in the installation or it would install it without the changes i made?

if it would not install the apps, then should i re-spin it ? if so , would you show me how?

Thanks

You don't want a "full install" unless you have a very old, low ram computer. I won't go into why, there are many threads on it. What you want is to transfer your usb frugal install to the hard drive.

I take it you have a save file on your usb drive.

The easiest way is to use the Universal Installer to install puppy on to your hard drive. Then copy the save file into the same folder that the puppy files end up.

You can also do it manually by copying all the files off the USB into a folder and then running grub4dos or some other way to set up the boot manager.

One question about the hard drive before you do this.
What format is the hard drive partition(s)?
If it is fat32 or ntfs format and used by Windows.
Run Windows defrag program and defrag the partition(s) before installing Puppy.
This makes sure the file system is not fragmented and thus fragments the Puppy install.

Is Windows on the hard drive and is it going to stay installed?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
YaPI(any iso installer)
