In PPM you are looking for the Ubuntu ref which is what I highlighted in blue i.e. hardinfo_0.5.1+git20180227-1|Displays system information

Installing that will give you the 0.6-alpha version of hardinfo from 2017.
The problem was that both versions had [ALREADY INSTALLED] against them when I first went into PPM. I have since installed the above version. Sensors now appears in hardinfo.

Changed kernel, added "intel_pstate=disable" to the kernel line of the
menu.lst file.
Updated PPM and installed favorite applications.

Changing the kernel resulted in less CPU usage, maybe Phil needs to
offer an alternative kernel for computers with intel graphics?

Thanks.

Text wrapping in rox-filer columns

#154 Post by Terry H »

This version of bionic64 7.9.5 uses woodenshoe-wi Version 10 of rox filer. I am currently having an issue when in detailed view. On initial view the columns are displayed smaller with text wrapped. Enlarging the window and manually expanding columns leaves the text still wrapped. Changes to options doesn't alter this behaviour.

:( I only made a one line change between version 9 and version 10 to fix a segfault when running with old libraries.

But since Bionicpup64 does not use old libraries, going back to version 9 until I can figure out what is wrong should fix it.

Thanks for the quick response.

Edit: previous version columns formatted OK.

Bionicpup64 7.9.5 beta

#159 Post by ETP »

Hi Phil,

A minor issue is that the included mpv GUI does not launch centre screen.
That may be resolved by the inclusion of the attached conf file who's contents are reproduced below.
(It also ensures the correct selection of sub-title language when appopriate & sets the screenshot directory)

Code: Select all

# This file (mpv.conf) goes in ~/.config/mpv/
# Revised 27th June 2018 to include slang and screenshot-directory (Needed in some Pups when root is not automaticaly used) - ETP
# Additional notes:
#
# --no-border is used within launch scripts. eg /usr/bin/mpv --no-border [url or path to file/script]
# To quit the TV press keyboard letter q
# To resume later at the same position when viewing a film or video, use instead keyboard letter Q (Upper case)
# To toggle between windowed & full-screen mode press keyboard letter f
# Use numbers 0 (up) and 9 (down) across the top of the keyboard to adjust volume.
# To take a screenshot press keyboard letter s
# Toggle visibility of subtitles (when available) with keyboard letter v
# To pause or resume play use keyboard letter p or the space bar.
#
geometry=50%:50%
slang=$LANG
screenshot-directory=/root/my-documents/images/

The problem is with rox-filer-10woodenshoe, it is not specific to Bionicpup64.

There are links to older versions in the "ROX-Filer 2.11 patched" thread http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 57#1004157

That thread is probably the best place to post Rox related issues.

When I'm using https://www.google.com/maps , sometimes the map goes black, and then returns to normal. And this keeps going on.

EDIT:Oh, this is with Chrome; see next message.
On this Dell E6410 laptop.

Hadn't happened with 32-bit musher0's Xenial.

Thanks for any help,

Sheldon

sheldonisaac,

What browser are you using?
If it is PaleMoon.
Have you updated it to V28.1.0?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

64-bit Chrome, bigpup; I just realized I hadn't said that.

I will check it with Palemoon, and report the version ..
OK, I just updated PaleMoon to V28.1.0.

I booted without the savefolder.

No, the problem hasn't occurred while using PaleMoon.

I'm going back to bed now.

Thanks!

.4 to .5 got savefile update fine,quickpet/bionic update no prob,well done phil!,great feature,alike chromium 70 .

My main purpose to get a working compton got nothing to do with bling-bling...
just like to get onscreen keyboard transparency, yep, xvkbd here, and transparency dilude its straight look ;)
For whatever reasons i cannot get bionic-beta supplied compton conf to be apply on menu or trays even when config menu ,box check or manual editing says so.
But works if install xcompositemgr as said..

Installing G chrome got Error: /etc/machine-id contains 32 characters (32 were expected), a (cowboy) found that link fix: # ln -s /var/lib/dbus/machine-id /etc/machine-id

If you get that annoying up arrow keyboard link opening default capture mtpaint ,delete or change 111 exe:defaultscreenshot with jwm keyboard shortcut.
if needed..
.5 kernel is fine, but for wacon/touch/libinput/autoconf-xorg i do run lxpupsc latest kernel 4.18.12 now. Installed to ntfs win$/ssd with lick on that uefi 3 years old all intel driven tablet.

Bionic being lts, look like a keeper ,else then hardware specifics or getting old but so useful easystroke small glitches see in all puppy's,its rock solid here..as most puppys do..

you still see those icons on the desktop:
My temporary workaround for the "Ghost Icons" bug is to edit /root/.xinitrc
Insert a line with

Code: Select all

touch /var/local/pup_event_icon_change_flag
before the line

Code: Select all

/clean_desk_icons #v4.02 tidy up drive icons first.
In August the testing branch of Woof-CE removed all of the unconditional code in clean_desk_icons. As a result it does nothing in .xinitrc.

BEWARE! I don't understand much of the gibberish in Puppy scripts. I'm just copying what eventmanager does.
It seems to restore behaviour similar to Xenialpup64

Trying to get my new Lenovo Yoga 530 (ryzen 2500u) to run.

On the good side, BionicPup64 is the only Puppy running X. Even LxPup with a more recent kernel failed.

On the challenge side
- No wifi. The device is shown as Realtek c821 in Hardinfo, but is not detected in SNS nor Frisbee.
- Touchpad isn't working, and I can't find any info about this in Hardinfo.
- Touchscreen is not working
- The Function-keys (Eg. to decrease the screen brightness) is not working.

Very Happy to see a new official Puppy in the shaping.

Thanks a lot
Sigmund

added fdisk (swap wasn't mounting) ...etp
added xdg-mime, needed by some apps
added chromium browser with hardware acceleration to quickpet
fixed xsane online help ... it calls netscape :)
As test to see if it works OK.
Quickpet>Drivers>Nvidia 390.87
Downloaded, installed and now using this Nvidia driver.
Driving a Geforce GTX 1070

Bionicpup64 7.9.5 beta

#169 Post by Billtoo »

I had been running Chromium installed from PPM but it wouldn't launch anymore so I uninstalled it and installed the one from Quickpet.

It's working fine, my bookmarks and settings from the Chromium that I was using are still there.

Terry H had mentioned cpu temp always showing the same temp. The
other bug in pmcputemp I often see (on xenial and tahr pups also)
is a repeated message at startup to the effect that cpu temp does
not work here :) I've long had to get rid of the annoyances by deleting
pmcputemp from Startup. My observations include experiences on at
least the six different computers I currently have.

Terry saw the issue of showing the same temp all the time as a minor
problem, but I see it as a seriously misleading one. Until it's fixed, I
think it should be removed. For experienced users needing cpu core(s)
and/or hard drive temps, there are very simple ways to "do it
yourself".
