Universal File viewer by MochiMoppel

#1 Post by mikeslr »

Hi All,

As far as I can tell, MochiMoppel's Universal File Viewer has only been discussed on its own thread in the "Off-Topic>Programming" Section: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 325#941325

IMHO, while perhaps MochiMoppel has plans for further development, as it now is it is far too polished and useful an application not to be widely know. Like SRF's UExtract (Universal File Extractor) it can be run under any Puppy and regardless of whether your system is 32 or 64-bit.

It is not limited to just viewing graphic files. Currently, it:

Main Features of MMview
Supports common text formats
Supports most image formats, incl. RAW formats
Supports common audio/video formats (displays metadata, requires ffprobe or avprobe)
Supports common file compression formats
Supports eBook format EPUB
Supports directories (displays disk usage, sizes of subdirectories)
Supports executables (displays usage message)
Supports virtual files in /proc and /sys (for geeks!)
Search function
Command line interface
File create/rename/move/copy/delete
Horizontal or vertical layout
Fullscreen mode
Line wrapping
Line numbers
Can display file properties, MD5 checksums, ID3 tags of audio files
Can display image metadata (Exif, IPTC , XMP)
Plays audio files (optional) (requires ffplay or avplay)
Plays video files in separate window (optional) (requires ffplay or avplay)
Displays full paths, MIME types and charsets
Starts with last used directory and last used window size
Provides keyboard shortcuts for most actions
ROX-Filer compatible: Shift+! opens shell command box
ROX-Filer compatible: Dblclick or Enter/Space key opens file in its default application
ROX-Filer compatible: Selecting file sends its full path to PRIMARY buffer

Built-in standard features (but nevertheless noteworthy)
Drag'n'drop from Chooser to Desktop: Creates desktop shortcut
Drag'n'drop from Chooser to ROX-Filer: Copies file (while pressing Shift: moves file)
Drag'n'drop from ROX-Filer to Chooser: Jumps to the file in list (changes chooser's directory as needed)
Entering first letter of a file name jumps to the file in list

Working with Rox-Filer, it enhances that application to provide a more complete Graphic File Management System. It can also provide the formatting information about a video, and can be configured to initiate the playing of one you've selected.

Text, wordprocessing, spreadsheet, pdf and other files will be opened in their respective default applications.

Thanks Mike for mentioning. Everything you wrote is still valid, except maybe for your claim that my file viewer runs under "any" Puppy.

I've never noticed your post until now when I entered "MochiMoppel" into a Goggle search and your post came up as the very first hit :o
Isn't that weird, given the modest attention your post received? Google is a mystery.

I include mm_viewme on every operating system I am creating.

Works extremely well on WeeDog32 and WeeDog64 (Void Linux) and also working with ArchPup where it is included as standard outfitting as well

great program and should be in woof-CE

Ditto what rockedge said. Built into lighthouse. I think Mike's comment about "any puppy" is not premature.

thanks for this,
df

Thanks, it sounds good. I'll try it out. I wish it included something like "tree" as the standard directory view though.

@Flash: Feel free to post a feature request but I would appreciate if you do this after you've tried the script, not before.
Additional directory content information is already available in alternate view and from properties page
