PostPosted: Mon 12 Nov 2018, 18:36    Post subject:  1000 SFS Modules !!!

Just want to announce:

- today I'd created my 1000th SFS Module to be stored permanently

They come from and being used in Puppies based on:

- Lucid
- Precise
- Tahr
- Unicorn
- Vivid
- Xenial

- Artful
- Bionic

All are sitting in /mnt/home/Modules and being loaded from that location (modified sfs_load for this (using NOCOPY in general)).

Very Happy

Wonder if there is a way you could get them put into the official Puppy repository.

This is info on how to to do it.

Idea And while we're giving you things to do, Laughing, posting about that modification may be of interest in general; but especially, perhaps, for those Puppy fans who prefer to run without a SaveFile/Folder. [But, I have a feeling you've already done that in discussing "Lazy Puppy".

That would be 25 GB to upload.

I'm using a prepaid card on my USB modem holding 5.5 GB for uploads and downloads per charge. Each charge makes 15,- € so this would be 75 ,- € to upload all of them. This would take months to do so as I'm not able to pay this at once, as I need at least one or two charges per month for my general use.

There is some programs included from the Lucid that won't be found in Tahr repository but do run and work in Tahr (at least in my Art Studio). E.g.: Rezound. There's some more I can't recall at the moment.

That's just the reason why my local repository is getting that big!

Don't think so - at least I can't recall a discussion of that modification.

I'll put this on my list and planning to do a separate topic for this where I will post the modified script plus instructions how to use.

At least 472 of those SFS Modules are still stored at smokey01.com/RSH/ (checked right now).
Some of them are also stored at archive.org at times when you mirrored my LazY Puppy, V.S.P. Puppy, L.A.S.S.I.E. stuff etc.

Burn to DVD and post them?

Do you mean sending DVDs via analog mail?

To where would this go?

Australia, USA, Canada, Philippines, New Zealand, Gudensberg? Wink

Ok, Lincoln, UK sounds good. It's not too far from Kassel, Germany.

What do you think?

Should I first sort out what's already stored at smokey01.com (some of them are older versions and those versions locally on my drive are updated in some specs)?

Or should I burn everything I got available to the DVDs?

Putting it on a 32GB USB stick and posting that could be more cost effective.

Plus it's even much faster than to burn 25 GB to DVDs.

I already thought of that solution, but this would make a package very small and lightweight, so anyone probably knows, there's an USB flash drive stuck in.

We'll see...
