shut down X windows by pressing ctrl+alt+backspace

type something like this:

startx jwm

or

startx icewm

or

startx fluxbox

depending what window managers you have installed, and which one you want to use

yes, Lobster is right.

But:

the Icewm-folder is hidden.

In Puppybackground, click on the folder-icon, to open a directory-chooser.
Navigate to /root in it, then enter "." and hit the [tab] -key.
Now you see hidden folders beginning with a ".".
Click on .icewm themes dragonfly.

Icewm themes sometime have the background built inot the theme ... but it will only change the background automatically if you have the icewmbg program running

if you start Icewm by typing startx icewm the icewmbg program will not be running ... if you start Icewm by typing:

startx icewm-session

or by typing:

startx icewm-session2

then the icewmbg program should be running and the background should change automatically, if the theme has a built in background

but if you install Rox 2.x, like Rox 2.5, you will not see the Icewm background because Rox will control the background

but Menu / Control Panel / Puppy background should change the background in any case

in the Icewm menu? or on the desktop?

the desktop icons are set by Rox ... right click an icon and click Set Icon

the icons in the Icewm menu can be changed by editing the menu file in the hidden directory /root/.icewm/

what for options do you need?

Download some icons, for example here are some small packs:
http://dotpups.de/files/iconsets/

Extract somewhere with pupzip/xarchive

Open a rox-window to watch them.

Right-Click the desktop-icon to modify, "set icon".
Now drag the icon you want from the first rox-window on the drop-area.

You find more iconsets here, but they are huge, as they include many different sizes.
You can delete all unwanted sizes like 192x192 after extraction.
