A small and smart MIDI-Audio Studio

#1 Post by ITSMERSH »

Hi Musicians and others interested in easily doing some music!

While working on my new LazY Puppy 6 I searched almost the whole web for useful audio & midi programs. So, I would have a good collection to build small and smart MIDI-Audio-Studio .sfs modules.

I re-discovered some useful VST plugins for Linux. Some of them I'd already installed and used in my 32bit Art Studio.

In my new LazY Puppy 6 I have a very nice setup using Qtractor 0.8.5 plus some VST plugins plus one very good LV2 plugin for the drums - I discovered this a few days ago, when I was on the search for MusE video tutorials.

The basic Operating System used:

- BionicPup64 7.9.6

Topic of BionicPup64: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=114311

For the JACK Audio I used:

- Cadence

Free download from KXStudio Software.

So, there's these VST plugins:

- Podolski
- Protoverb
- Repro
- TripleCheese
- TyrellN6
- Zebralette

They are all free programs from u-he software.
Clicking Products opens a overview of all commercial and free programs with links.

Ok, that's the VST setup.

Now to introduce the pretty cool LV2 plugin for the drums:

- AvlDrums

It is available to download here.

You can see it in the screenshot. It comes with two different drum kits:

- Black Pearl
- Red Zeppelin

This GUI shows Black Pearl and both are playable by mouse clicks. Most drums and cymbals have different zones to play returning different sounds like choked cymbal etc.

By adding Qtractor plus those DSSI, LV2 and LADSPA plugins from package manager like Calf Monosynth, Calf Organ, FluidSynth, Hexter, WhySynth, WSynth, XSynth and Yoshimi there will be a pretty powerful MIDI-Audio-Studio without the hassle to use and connect standalone synthesizers.

Though, even this small setup of 6 VST and 1 LV2 plugin is pretty cool.

So, happy download, happy composing...

EDIT:

Additional Music Software I found after doing the video:

Free 64bit version of Tracktion 7.2.1

Hi.

I have updated some information in above post (added info about Cadence) and created a short 3m50s video showing BionicPup64 7.9.6, Qtractor 0.8.5 and the above mentioned VST plugins in action.

Hi.

Increasing the LazY Puppy 6 Audio Studio...

On Youtube I stumbled over a video about Free Digital Audio Workstations.

In the video descriptions there's a lot of links to Music Software. I didn't check all of them, so I can't say if it's Linux only or even Windows and Mac as well (edit: checked, almost all are Windows or Mac except three or four of them).

However, there's a link to download the free 64bit version of Tracktion 7.2.1.

Just register and download.

At first run you'll be asked to unlock the program by confirming the registration data. Confirm and have fun with free Tracktion 7.2.1.
