QuickPet - Vivaldi - Menu entry

#1 Post by fiskrond »

New install of Xenial...
Downloaded Vivaldi via QuickPet...
Only found it (file>hidden files>opt) and got it running due to considerable help from e-chat..

Why no menu entry?... would have expected downloads from QuickPet to be 100% hassle-free...

Is this an oversight or a no-can-do?
:?

First, anytime you talk about a Puppy version we need the exact full name.
New install of Xenial...
That could be:
Xenialdog
Xenialpup 7.5
Xenialpup64 7.5
And about 7 or 8 different versions of each of those.

I will assume you did this in Xenialpup64 7.5

I did it and Quickpet took me to the Vivaldi download web site.
I downloaded and installed the vivaldi 2.2 64bit DEB.
(I am using Xenialpup 64 bit)

Using DEB packages, you sometimes see this not making menu entries, when it installs.
The install made no menu entry.
If you go to the Puppy menu>Exit>Rebuild Menu.
That should make the Vivaldi menu entry.
Worked for me.
menu>Internet>Vivaldi

DEB packages are not compiled specifically for Puppy and how it is setup. So, little issues do happen, but not to hard to fix.

If ever getting something other than a Puppy program pet package.
DEB packages are usually the next best to use.

Note:
Browsers are changing constantly, so 666philb probably just put the Vivaldi download site in Quickpet, so it would always offer the latest version.
Nobody but Puppy developers and coders make Puppy pet packages of software, so you have to use the best others make.
666philb could have made a pet package of Vivaldi, but it would be outdated in a few weeks!
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
YaPI(any iso installer)
