From <http://www.puppyos.com/flash-puppy.htm>, I followed these simple instructions.
"Go to the Puppy download page and download live-Puppy (file puppy-xxxx.iso, where "xxxx" is version number plus some options), that boots off a CD. Bootup Puppy, and in the "Setup" menu you will find an entry called "Puppy Universal Installer". Select that, and follow the simple instructions."
I was surprisingly competent at downloading Puppy 2.10, burning an image, changing the boot order and being presented with the Puppy Desktop.
I then used the installer to install onto my 128 MB thumbdrive. Booting to the thumbdrive went along very well for several pages of text, then it stopped. I have tried various options during repeated installs and it always freezes at the same point (altho' sometimes the preceding text varies somewhat).
I have posted a screenshot at:

Won't Boot from USB
Won't Boot from USB
I have tried all the various combinations and permutations of the various options presented in puppy installer, plus several different flash drives. On reboot to USB, it either doesn't recognize any OS on the drive, or it stalls with the statement:
"sd 1:0:0:0: attached scsi removable disk sdb"
As putting Puppy on a flash drive was more of an exercise than a practical necessity, I have given up. However, I will be attempting to install Puppy on the the HD of an old computer that I just brought up from the basement.

I cannot make my 128 mb sony usb stick to boot puppy 2.11 seamonkey.
I can boot my 2 knoppix usb sticks just fine. (I made those myself).
Have looked in this archive a lot, spending some hours.
I get puppy on the usb all right, using puppy set up program, and have tried all the options I have met in the wizard, but my usb stick will not boot.
The pc is a Fujitsu Siemens Scalero 600.

There are numerous threads or wiki pages dealing with this difficulty. For example:
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/USBKeysTroubleBooting
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/USBBoot
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=9093
I have been collecting them as I encountered them, as my first try at it was unsuccessful too, and I wanted to give it a try again later.
Some boot difficulties, such as probing the USB bus, have been cleaned up in recent releases, like Puppy 2.10r1 and 2.11. Make sure you work with those at least. I think 2.10 still had some shortcomings in that respect.
