Trying to install some software (64 bit version). I have symbols errors about libicui18n. Mtools-4.0.18 does not compile and a my previous version compiled in slacko64-14.2 does not work. Wxcam does not work, too. I have wasted time to install my brother laser printer: slackware does not support foomatic. I have solved with alien packages ending to reuse the expired 64bitinstaller by rcrsn51.

As long as it is the latest version of that ucode, it should work for all devices of that model number.
As peebee said it's a bit of a nightmare. The problem here is in trying to cater for new and old kernels. The kernels will do a search starting at a firmware version then cycle back, depending on the kernel a variable number of times (I had between 3 and 8 attempts) looking for appropriate firmware. Version 17 will work for current kernels being used (4.9.x > 4.19.x), it may be out of range for earlier kernels.

I ran a lot of tests back in April for a ilwifi-7265, so similar issues with firmware versions, to determine firmware versions required by various kernels. At that time I tested kernels between 3.18.x to 4.15.x.
Link to earlier testing.

Why try to do that.
Just support the kernel that is going to be in the ScPup release.

Kernel Release: 4.19.12 is what is in this ScPup64 19.01.
If I understand all you are saying.
The firmware needs to be for that kernel
Anyway, I got the iwlwifi-7260-17.ucode from Bionicpu64 7.9.7 and put it in /lib/firmware.

That fixed my Intel 7260 wifi controller.

Posting this from ScPup64 using that wifi controller.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

No, regarding iwlwifi firmware specifically, wifi will only work if the kernel finds firmware within a a set range of versions.

Wxcam does not work, too.
Reverting to icu4c-56.1-x86_64-2.txz wxcam works.
I also have a working mtools-4.0.23 built from an alien package. It's a mistery that mtools-4.0.18 compiled in slacko64-700-RC3 does not work.

Fresh frugal to HD of the +1 update of the 64 bit version. The color scheme
is great! The only problem I've noticed is that Psync doesn't report the time
adjustments it makes. It looks kinda like it makes no adjustments at all.

With slacko 6.9.9.9 I was able to install qpdfview but it can't be found
in the repos.
Edit: Managed to get slackware64-14.2-extra (and others) added in PPM
and now have qpdfview installed.

Another thing I miss is the right-click-run-in-terminal feature phil has in
his creations, and (IIRC) you have in some of yours.

Was glad to see you doing this 64 bit slackopup version.

icons

I am trying out a frugal install on hd of ScPup64+1 on a i5 laptop.
It works nicely. Looks like a classic modern Puppy.
I've always liked the feel of slacko and this definitely has that feel.

I only have one thing to report now.
The desktop icons for the partitions pile up in 1 place. There is the first partition, and then on the spot of the second partition a pile of all other partitions.
This also happens on your Bionic Pup.

Hi Art - I can see that this feature is missing - but I can't work out what needs to be added to the build to activate it - anybody got any ideas??

psync seems to work ok for me....

Thanks

Hi foxpup

I don't see this with a pristine frugal install - have you made any theme changes or icon layout changes? I have seen reports that some values of icon separation cause the problem you are seeing.

Can you try a pristine frugal install please and let me know if it has the problem?

What are the dimensions of your screen?

Thanks

@peebee
Concerning psync, it does not report the offset (the amount of correction
it had to make), so my quick usual way of testing cannot be done. My
usual way is to run psync twice to make sure that the offset the second
time is extremely small (on the order of a millisecond).

So I tried setting the system time in the BIOS off by a half hour or so,
and psync did correct the time. But I sure do miss the offset info, and
I think some users need accurate offset info for certain purposes.

I've remembered how the right clicks are added to UPup - it's via the ydrv...

The same ydrv (renamed) can be added to ScPup but there will be some menu entries that don't work due to missing apps.

Renamed .sfs are attached.

I'll put the requested "Run in Terminal" into the next builds.

============
psync - was reimplemented in Woof-CE fairly recently - needs a Woof-CE change request raising

Hi peebee

I have a i5 lenovo laptop with a 15inch (507x285 millimeters) screen with 1920x1080 pixels.

I restarted with pfix=ram and looked systematically for the culprit. I do have some minor tweaks like increasing font size one level.
But it is a change in Rox that causes the pile of icons:
I set the icon grid step of the pinboard behaviour to coarse (from fine). It is easier to align icons on the desktop.
The pile also happens with icon grid step Medium.

Hi peebee

Do you think this is something for woof CE?
I only have this in your builds.
So maybe it is something special you do in your builds?

If I find it in other builds I will let you know.

It only happens with vertical icons - and my builds are probably the only ones that have vertical icons - but it happens with other builds if you change them to vertical icons ....
so yes it is a Woof-CE issue....

In what other Puppies do you have this behaviour?
I have it with the icons on the bottom or left just the same.

I have tried changing from bottom to left in dpup Stretch from radky and in xenialpup. I have to change the gaps to have proper placement, but no piles.

In xenialpup I have to ask for a refresh/realignment. In Stretch even a simple restart of X makes the change.
Calculations seem to take a little time, more than I would expect.

I see it in pups made with recent versions of Woof-CE

XenialPup is too old in this regard.

I see it in UPupBB and UPupCC.

I also see it in Norgo's recent update of Slacko 700 RC3 - K4.4.70 PAE

hello peebee

I have it in upupBB also. I haven't installed upupCC yet.

I've tried norgo's new slacko build and I do not have piles there. I chose right on the screenshot, but left is similar.
Could this depend on the screen or some other hardware?

The other recent CE Puppy I have installed is radky's RC4 for dpup Stretch. No piles.
