Hello:

When u configure your swapfile, you can choose where to place it and the SWAPINESS:

By default it's 60. Can I put 100? What will happen? What's the meaning of this quantity?

THANKS A LOT

Hello pp4mnklinux,

The higher the value is, the sooner the system will start using swap.
So, for example, when you set swapiness to low value, e.g. 10, it will start using swap only at the point when absolutely needed.
(I've set it to 10 myself, the default setting of 60 often slowed down my system because it starts using swap too early)
I think that such a low value is in general recommended when you have a lot of RAM. (EDIT: Well I have 2GB RAM which is not really much and 10 works fine for me)
(also I've heard that for SSD drives it's recommended to use an even lower value, e.g. 1, but anyone please correct me if that's wrong)

Fred
