How to connect tablet app to printer via wifi, in Puppy?

#1 Post by eccentric »

Good day to you all.. i have a tablet, with a printer app that has usb and wifi connection, but i cannot find any Puppies that support wifi. is there an app for this, or is it a cups problem. the puppies work with usb.
Michael.

What is your objective? You have a printer attached to a Puppy machine by USB? You want to print FROM the tablet TO that printer over WiFi?

Describe the "printer app" on your tablet. Is it designed for a specific printer model?

On the tablet you have the option of Usb or wifi. but with cups you only have Usb I have no room on the desk for the printer so i leave it in another room. when i want to print with puppy i have to stand it on a chair and use usb.but i would like to use it from the other room. with wifi.

Have you read How to Install your Printer in Puppy?

All CUPS versions in all Puppies can access a wireless printer, provided that the computer and printer are on the same subnet.

How is your printer connected to your WiFi network? How does your computer connect to WiFi?

Run PeasyPort and scan for port 9100.

You still have not identified your printer's make/model.

Don't reinstall yet. Just answer my questions.
How is your printer connected to your WiFi network? How does your computer connect to WiFi?

Eccentric, it sounds like you want to use an Android app in the tablet to connect via wifi to the printer. Where does Puppy come into this? Is it in a computer in the other room where the printer is?

the printer uses wifi to talk the tablet via the router. this works but what i want to do is use a puppy and the printer via wifi. at the moment i have to use USB from puppy to the printer. i only have one printer but no room on the desk so i have to put the printer on a chair. next to me.but i have room in the bedroom. you get a blue light on the printer when it is paired with the router this is working.

It sounds like your computer and printer are on the same WiFi network via your router.

Are you running a firewall on the computer? This will prevent CUPS from auto-detecting the remote printer.

Do you know the IP address of the printer?

Run PeasyPort. Use the MAC button. Is the printer detected?

Scan your network for ports 515 and 9100. Is the printer detected?

What Puppy version are you using?

Have you read How to Install your Printer in Puppy yet?

I have asked you FIVE questions. Please answer them ALL.

I don't understand your network. You appear to be finding two different printers on two different subnets.

What is the IP address of your own computer?
