OK, Here's what works for me. Download http://smokey01.com/OscarTalks/mplayer- ... recise.pet and http://smokey01.com/OscarTalks/smplayer ... recise.pet. Install them. Post a thank you to OscarTalks.Rodney Byne wrote:Hi jrb,
As one of my hobbies is playing libraries of classical
music and international url radio playlists,
yes I trial-installed them from the PPM as they
are available media players to be used.
Audacious and VLC worked ok, but I also wanted smplayer
to compare facilities and stereo sound spread quality
on my home hifi system.
From your comment you seem surprised,
Sorry I must have caught you a little off guard.
I had similar Multimedia problems with Barry K and EasyOS.
To resolve them, in the end he had to re-compile virtually
the entire stock of players to make them work properly.
Happily the result was a success.
It seems devs leave them for the guinea pigs to find probs
before doing anything about them.
They are not routinely tested to be compatible
with the OS concerned! The chief bugbear being missing
dependencies.
Anyway if you could look into making the smplayer package
launch, I for one would be grateful thanks.
By the way PlayMusic has a new fault, whereby after installing VLC,
it can't share the sound architecture bus anymore,
as it demands full priority to work to play music tracks.
The net effect is to constantly skip down the tracks list
without actually playing them.
So maybe the use of VLC and smplayer will have to be abandoned
after all?
Best regards, Rodney.
Playmusic still works but if you want to make smplayer your defaultmediaplayer and/or defaultaudioplayer go to /usr/local/bin and make the following changes:
Code: Select all
exec playmusic "$@"
Code: Select all
exec smplayer "$@"
As for developers and guinea pigs, I like to tell people we are all developers. The truth is that developers are simply Puppy users who are willing to do a bit of work for others. Puppy has lost many good and talented people due to complaining, it kind of takes the fun out of it.
