I just installed bionicpup64 8.0 on an old Asus EeePC Seashell series netbook. QBat show up on the taskbar but does not show accurate battery status. It always shows 100% right up to the point the laptop shuts down because the battery has run out. The charging/discharging indicator only seems to reflect the status when I first start up: if the charger is plugged in when I start up it says "charging" even after i unplug it; if it's not plugged in when I start up it says "discharging" even if i later plug it in.

The battery is a third-party product, but I previously had Fedora 19 on this netbook and its battery indicator seemed to work.

Any ideas?

EeePC's are the hardest ones to deal with.
They do some things in a strange way.

Could try using this battery monitor.
Batterup

Download the 64bit version.
In Rox file manager navigate to where you downloaded it.
This is a deb package.
To get it to post to the forum a .gz is put on the end of the name.
Remove the .gz from the name.
Then left mouse click on the batterup_1.6-1_amd64.deb.
It will install.

Maybe the warning in Qbat may still work.
You have to set it and turn it on.
Right click on the Qbat tray icon.
Select settings.
Check event for critical battery capacity
Set a critical capacity
Set what warning to give.

Hmmmm.... the Slacko5.7 puppies have a battery indicator that works, even with 'generic' replacements. I own/use an EEE 900a daily with Slacko5.7. I've never encountered this problem.

What do you get if you type this in a console terminal?
Code:
acpi -b

I installed batterup, but it thinks the charger is plugged in even when it isn't.

Code:
acpi -b
Battery 0: Discharging, 100%, 4200:00:00 remaining

(basically the same thing qbat shows)

I notice that I'm now getting a superblock error on bootup, although it continues to boot okay. I didn't see this before the pc crashed after the battery ran down, so i guess the crash corrupted it. I doubt this has anything to do with the battery issue, though, as qbat wasn't working before that.

I may try the slacko puppy next.
