Goodmorning, I'am Sister Mariagrazia and I'm from Italy. My English is a poor English so I hope you can forgive my bad english.
It is almost one month I had installed bionic pupp - 32bit on my old hp laptop to save it because the hardware even if it is a very poor hardware (hp 6720 con ram da 3 Gb e rom da 120Gb- Cpu celeron I don't remember the number in this moment) it is still in a good state. The wireless port is not so strong and the signal was very low and not stable so I bought in Amazon a usb adapter that was very usefull till I had Windows vista on my lap top but now that I had Bionic pup I have no software to use it on my laptop. I made Computer science 29 years ago but now I'm analphabet especially now that I use a new OS. Is there any people who can help me to use my usb adapter with bionic pup (or can you suggest me a usb adapter I can buy on Amazon that is good also with pc with Puppy linux OS? brand and number.

OopS: didn't see that...Realtek 8811CU Wireless LAN
And something else....sometimes better to boot with
no Wireless lan inserted.

Then when the desktop comes up...Insert it.
Use Frisbee to connect it.

Even your original inbuilt one may surprise you by working OK.

Depending where your router is placed.
Hot spotting from a phone works in Puppy.

I generally like to advocate Radky Stretch.

As Chris said, your laptop wireless may be OK. Sometimes an F button (perhaps F6) can be pressed to turn it on. If not we can make a driver for your usb adapter.
Would you please run the following commands in a terminal & post the results:

uname -r

lspci
(just post the 'Network' results)

That will tell us what kernel & what laptop adapter(s) you have.

And welcome to Puppy Linux!

So in Bionic puppy, you can go to Menu->System->Pup-Sysinfo->Devices->USB Devices->Sumary and then copy and paste the information into a reply here.

Also when you are in Pup-Sysinfo, Please copy and paste the info at Sys-Specs->Kernel

Or if you would like to do this from a terminal window, copy and paste the results of:

uname -a

and

lsusb

When you copy and paste the results from a terminal window, you only need to highlight the results to copy and then paste by clicking right and left mouse(or track pad) buttons simultaneously into the reply.

Also, please verify your CPU is a Celeron 530.

If it is, it will support a 64bit version of puppy linux.

My cpu is celeron 550, when I look about it in windows vista I saw it is a 32 bit cpu, isn t it

Hi.

I've made drivers for your usb adapter and your onboard wireless. usb is easiest, so we'll try that first.

Boot up linux without usb adaptor, & run .pet by opening it in file manager (pcmanfm). Then plug in usb adapter & try to set up network connection. You'll need to make a savefile or save folder when you shut down.

I have the same problem:
4.9.163-lxpup-32-pae
USB WLAN stick with rtl8811CU (according to Windows 10 system data)

After installing your driver, an 8821cu (USB) appears in the module list, which unfortunately does not work for my 8811cu.

That is the correct driver for your usb stick. The firmware error 'partially covers' may be an issue. I had never seen that before, until earlier today, with someone using an iMac. That, despite being the correct driver, is also unresolved. Perhaps a later kernel may help, but you'd need a driver for that kernel. I can make that if you wish.

I would be grateful for any solution. I gave my two laptops to my children because they have to study at home for school because of Corona. For me, there are only two very weak 10 years old computers left for working at home

olaf, the method for changing kernels is part of the link 2 posts up. A 4.1 kernel is quite old & you would need to try an old puppy (tahrpup/xenialpup?). Then you would still need a driver compiled. As for your link, it refers to development at github, which is where I got my source that didn't work for you. Perhaps try an ethernet cable connection?

I replaced the files in /mnt/home (hope this is correct), restarted, click on rtl8811-8821cu-32.pet:

puppy package manager
rtl8811-8821cu-32.pet is named rtl8811-8821cu-32-k414162p inside the pet file. Will not install it!

Ethernet cable:
is not possible without clearly damaging several rooms.
