Hi all,

I tried to lunch cups from the menu by going to menu > setup> cups printer wizard, then I got this the windows with the title puppy printing (screenshot1) . then when I press manage printers and printer task an abi word window appear with some lines that are not active to click ( screenshot 2) . I thought it should be directing me to a webpage where i can work om my printer configuration.

I can access cups in browser still, but I wonder why it does behave in such way.

Xenialpup 7.5 32 bit.

That is a bug in Xenialpup 7.5
It should be showing a browser page you can navigate around in.

Have you run Quickpet->Info->Xenialpup updates?

Really, the best thing to do, is follow the information given here:
How to install your printer in Puppy
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=59015
Setting up a printer is a little bit of work.
Just carefully read the first post of this topic and follow the steps.
About halfway down in the first post, is links to how to specifically setup each make and model printer. Those links will take you to specific details, on that make and model printer.
Read slowly and carefully!

if possible... instead of abiword, download the libreoffice.sfs and use it. libreoffice is much better than abiword. As a heavy office user, i use puppy linux with libreoffice.sfs everyday. No issues with printing either. (you need to find the printer driver if it is not included in your puppies)

you can find the libreoffice.sfs here:http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=116963

for printer drivers, usually you will need the PPD file, which can be found here:http://www.openprinting.org/printers

open cups in browser, select administration, then add new printer, and follow the settings etc.

@ lizardidi

thanks for your input, but the main issue related to this post is that when I click the menu entry it should direct me to the browser, but instead it open an abiword for some reason.

here is the scenario ; you are in the library and you want to print something. the way I do it in windows is through net work. I access it and double click on the icon that is places int he network directory and then I can print. How to do that in puppylinux.

In such situation I know neither Ip address nor the model of the printer, and the people who work in the library are no technical and I even doubt that they have every heard about linux.

Yes I can access cups through the browser. how can I use it to connect to a printer that is in public places like a library. That doesn't also answer the question about how to fix the bug that is related to the wizard. sure,I can bookmark the address, but still ...

First thanks for searching the web and your help, but as a beginner I find it quite difficult to implement it ( it seems to require a lot of configuration), not even sure if it is goona work in solving the problem. Have you ever implement it or tried to connect your puppy to a printer that exist in a public place like a library.
