How to set up spam filtering in Sylpheed?

#1 Post by Subito Piano »

Hi! I just started getting boatloads of spam. Ugh -- don't know where I slipped up, I usually use MaskMe from Abine but somebody got my reall email address and sold it.

So -- can anyone provide or point me to a step-by-step procedure to set up spam filtering in Sylpheed? I've never found clear instructions for installing bogofilter and IDK if sylfilter works with Linux, don't know if there is anything else.

(Slypheed version 3.5.0 , build 1169.)

Thank you in advance.

Assuming you have a dev enabled distro...

compile bogofilter from https://sourceforge.net/projects/bogofilter/files/
mine usually goes to /usr/local/bin
you get-- bogofilter bogolexer bogotune bogoupgrade bogoutil

Sylpheed already knows how to use bogofilter. just enable defaults.

You need to train bogofilter, by doing an initial scan of an MBOX file.
I downloaded one and I seem to have lost it. (I will search)

bogofilter needs a db so pick one {db|qdbm|sqlite3|tokyocabinet}
bogo locates its DB under /root
eg:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5648640 Oct 11 16:15 wordlist.tc

.easy peasy.

gcav -- thank you!

Hmm....this will be the first time i will have played with dev. Love the challenge!

Schedule is crazy right now (and somehow, the spam just STOPPED) -- i'll report back after i get some time to download the devx sfs and start playing around. "Easy peasy" -- ?? Very good, that's an encouragement.

SPAM corpus (training set)

#4 Post by gcav »

UPDATE: It appears that SpamAssassin is now using submitted corpora. But there are plenty of public ones:
