Bionic Pup 64 Problems

This post I will include ALL bug that I found out as much as possible, this might help other to find a similar encounter as I am and we will find the solution together to make it work somehow, I will include my system info report also for comparison. I also including the type of bug wether it affect only a (SPECIFIC) system or (WIDE) system which is all pcs.

1. Many won't open, reason unknown (WIDE)
Many apps won't open for some reason, I dont really know why, I thought it was only Viewnior, but things like VLC and simple media player also do not open when executed. is it because of the lib crashing or what? i feel like it is very unsafe to install apps in PuppyLinux (PPM) because it causes error to other apps, or things, or perhaps systems. it feels like puppy is telling me to use whatever defaultly installed in the system. hmm...what do you think?
2. Sound button does not work (SPECIFIC/WIDE)
You may notice that the sound button does not functioning after installing puppy, this can be easily fix thru JWMdesk. click the menu->Desktop->JWMdeskManager, then choose "Hotkeys", for the exec:amixer thing set it to the right button. XF86Audio button, "Mute" for the toogle, "Raise" for the set Master 1+, and "Lower" for the set Master 1-
3. Sound indicator dissapeared from the tray (?)
No, solution yet, even resetting the pc doesn't do much
4. Brightness button or setting for intel laptop (SPECIFIC)

5. Battery indicator dissapeared from the tray (?)
No, solution yet, even resetting the pc doesn't do much

well, when fresh install i didn't check it throughly, but the one that I know when I pressed prtScr the mtpaint opened up.

It wont open anything when *.JPG (or any kind of images) is executed with Viewnior set as default. I checked it thruoughly in Task Manager and I see no process.

I also cannot run Viewnior from the MENU-GRAPHIC-VIEWNIOR, no process is created whenever it is executed, verified by Task Manager.

It works just fine in my install as well. It behaves as expected. It opens when selected from the menu and when clicking on *.jpg files from Rox Filer.

Pressing the PrtSc key causes Mtpaint to take a screenshot of the desktop. I believe that this is a feature rather than a bug.

I have not had any issue with sound on this OS with my desktop or my laptop. I know with some puppy's soundcards and sound setup have to be manually configured.

I have not experienced this issue so I cannot help with it but I wonder if your save file corrupted. (or does this all happen when you start the OS without a save file/folder?

It does happen, sometimes.

If you can. Install to a freshly formatted partition.

I'll post more bug when I found it

For me, everything works on Version 8.0 except for internal card reader (for pictures) do not work, yet it works fine in XenialPup64. I am guessing firmware needs to be changed but not sure how to do it easily...

I had an Acer laptop with a card reader that would not work at all with any linux. There was no driver for it. Sometimes this happens. Hopefully it is just a matter of finding the firmware for your card reader.

I tried live again to see which one is not working and which one is work, it turns out everything should work like what it should be. except the sound button which has to be set manually in JWM shortcut. I have a hunch that all the things that I installed or modifiying file (like xorg.conf, where in order to make the xbacklight work, that thing is a must) has a thing with this. I will post the things I installed on my laptop on my main post.

one more thing that is not included in the UNINSTALL list in PPM is Mozilla Firefox browser which I installed from the official website in order to make the sound in firefox work. Installing firefox from ppm WONT give me a sound when playing some music from a website or youtube.

I don't think quenyan will be satisfied with 'after-market' fixes & workarounds. We've suggested a lot to him over the past few weeks, most of which he's either pooh-poohed, or openly expressed his dissatisfaction with.

I think the whole reason why he's started this thread is because, yes; he does like Bionicpup64, but.....he's of the strongly-held opinion that all the points that don't work in Bionic64 for him really ought to be fixed promptly, and the ISO re-mastered, re-released & re-published (with everything built-in). In other words, anybody should be able to download this, and it should immediately work, 100%, on literally any hardware.

Which is the ultimate goal of most Linux distros when it boils down to it, I suppose. Unfortunately, even the open-source world isn't quite that straight-forward.....at the best of times. Especially given that the majority of devs do all this kinda thing in their spare time, and are very definitely not getting paid for doing so.

For a newbie, he's, well; "dogged" really is the expression that springs to mind here..! He's got the bit between his teeth, and is fast becoming our official Bionic QC person.....although I'm not quite sure what Phil B's response to all this is going to be.

We shall see, I guess.

I usually find that re-running the ALSA Sound Wizard (including the Multiple Sound Card Wizard, to make sure the audio chip/card is being correctly recognised), followed by re-running the Retrovol set-up sequence again, generally does the trick.

It might sound a long-winded way of fixing it, but once I've gone through this procedure, I don't usually have any recurring issues with it. And it does give you a chance to verify that everything audio-related is set up the way it should be.....

It is hard to support hardware with drivers when the device maker refuses to support linux at all. In many cases (like the example of Acer laptops with SD card readers) the maker of the device in question will not support a major windows update or version upgrade. I had an Acer netbook that had just that issue. Most of the time there is nothing to be done for that.

TBH, I'm quite satisfied with LXDE Mint, it just the speed did not match up with pup. I had no problem at all on Mint previously but 1 thing for sure, i don't like the speed.

Y'know, I'm beginning to agree with bigpup's assessment of your situation. It is looking more & more like a dodgy download. Nowt intentional; it just happens, sometimes.

Any of us who publish stuff for the community will upload things in all good faith.....but the process between the individual and the host's download servers is completely out of our control. There's no way of telling what intermediate conditions were like between the two endpoints, on the exact day and at the exact time when you decided to download the ISO.....

Try a re-install. Don't give up on Pup just yet; these things do happen from time to time.

guys, I am moving out to LXLE, my life is completed there. I was facing some minor bugs upon installing the LXLE such as sound and brightness, and even a dead touchpad. But all have been solved at ease, no sweat. So, I might going to check this post regularly and see, people can come and post their problem here to, so I put it to the main post list. I might not be very active with puppy in the future but I still care and hope for the best.
