I have been trying to get Skype to work in 3 different computers, but I cannot get the microphone to work. It seems that the microphone is not found. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

I have simplified translation of EasyPup relative to EasyOS:

...this information is relevant for those developing a "langpack" PET.

I performed a frugal install this to the hard drive of my Dell 745 USFF 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (E4600 processor), 4 gigs PC2-5300 RAM, 500Gb HDD,

I added the latest version of Vivaldi web browser using 01micko's vivaldi setup utility. I also added Mike Walsh spot-to-root script. I also have added an app image of FreeTube which works very well on this box.

I love this homage to the earlier versions of Puppy Linux. This version is tight, fast and fun. Thanks for this.

Firewall on task tray

#124 Post by Rodney Byne »

To belham2,

"P.S. Also wish there was a way to have a jwm tray icon to know the firewall is actually "Active". Call me old-fashioned, but not seeing anything always leaves me to wonder about it...."

I have just done this today and it works.

Menu>Desktop>JWMDesk Manager>top bar Launch

In the upper window "Available Applications", scroll down to
firewall-ng-setup and click on it.
In the lower window "Buttons", Firewall Setup will have appeared
under Virtual Keyboard and likewise in the left part of the task tray.

Click on the task tray fire icon and then under the ticked green badge
you will see Firewall On.
You can re-set the tables at will to confirm ok.
Enjoy, regards, Rodney.

To belham2, post correction

#125 Post by Rodney Byne »

To belham2,
Sorry, in my above post, I forgot the following in this sentence:

In the lower window "Buttons", Firewall Setup will have appeared
under Virtual Keyboard and likewise in the left part of the task tray
after pressing the Apply button.

jafadmin wrote:Patch for Gpptp-V2.0 on EasyPup2.2

Gpptp-V2.0 as released on EasyPup2.2X doesn't work. This patch addresses the issues.

What it fixes:
1) Adds an "ip" symlink to busybox in "/bin". This is needed by the pptp binary. Symlinking to the "ip" binary in "sbin" fails.
2) Makes a "/dev/ppp" node which is missing in EasyPup and adds code to re-create it every boot in "/etc/rc.d/rc.local"
3) Installs new "options.pptp" in "/etc/ppp"
4) Adds a default "ip-up" in "/etc/ppp"
Thanks for fixing gpptp!

I have posted to my blog:

Compiling of new NetSurf 3.10 release in EasyPup 2.2.16

Package named xxd needs to be Debian Buster
Having /usr/bin/xxd as a busybox symlink fails

Missing package libgdk-pixbuf2.0-bin
This provides missing gdk-pixbuf-pixdata executable

Missing DEV package libjpeg62-turbo-dev
Perhaps this is why mtPaint is missing jpeg support?

NetSurf 3.10 then compiles and runs, BUT there are quite a few missing icons. See especially the new panel for customisable toolbar buttons.

Yes, this is fixed in the soon-to-be-released 2.3.

:D Hello,
Frugal install on a Samsung laptop.
I3 duo ( but it identifies as a quad-core)
4 gb ram... Onboard Intel video...
All I've had time to check out yet is whether or not YouTube will full screen, which it does quite well. Everything I have tried so far has worked...
Of course, it has BK under the hood!
I'll get back after I've had some more time for testing...
Close the Windows, and open your eyes, to a whole new world

Can't get 2.3 to boot at all, regardless of selected boot codes or none.
Re-d/l twice, re-burned twice. Always seems to stall at 'loading vmlinuz...'

Just in response to the above, to say I boot this 'old' pup without trouble.
Frugal install and boot by grub4dos on a dell laptop dual core 2G RAM.

I just do not have eth0 (re)connection on boot, but I do not always want that anyway.

I've changed the themes and background to those of Wary and they both run the same now on this laptop :-)

I am looking for something, 64bits and up-to-date, that uses very little memory (and CPU)
because I want to be able to run Citrix, Teams and a webbrowser at the same time if necessary, on 2 screens.
So I use pfix=nocopy.
I use Fossapup the same way and a full install of Debian Buster as well, both with icewm.
Their mem&CPU usage match, though Fossapup is a little faster. Debian has a little more modern tools ( pulseaudio, dbus?, ? ); not everything just works in fossapup.
I still have to install icewm on easypup, but i can sea that easypup is a really good competitor. It is very gentle with this old laptop.

Thank you Barry for yet another very nice Puppy.

The Save button

#137 Post by Rodney Byne »

Barry,
pc close down saves quickly to the save file as expected.

But when the Save button on desktop is pressed,
the usual yellow info box appears, saying queued
and another box will later appear to show actual
saving, but after a very long wait this doesn't happen??
The yellow queued box just stays permanently on screen??

What does this all mean?

Thanks for reporting that! The SFSs are developed for EasyOS, and I nor anyone else has so far tried them in EasyPup.

In EasyOS, the padlock means that there are installed in a container, but EasyPup doesn't have containers. Will check that out.

EDIT:
Running EasyPup from CD right now, used "sfsget" to install Firefox.

Yes, it creates an incorrect menu entry. This is because the SFS is designed to run in EasyOS. OK, I will look into fixing the SFSs to be EasyPup-compatible. Firefox and Chromium need updating anyway.

Thanks for reporting that. Pretty obvious bug, that we should have picked up, but I only tested installing the 'devx' SFS, which doesn't have a menu entry.

You can still run Firefox, just type "firefox" in a terminal.

I only tested booting EasyPup 2.3 from a usb-stick. Worked ok.

I don't go to the trouble of burning the iso file to optical media anymore. But, will give it a go.

EDIT:
Burnt the ISO to a CD-R, booted it on my desktop PC, both in legacy-BIOS mode and in UEFI-mode, both worked.

I am running EasyPup 2.3 from CD right now, with a savefile, and I don't have a "Save" icon on the desktop.

I didn't think the EasyPup has that save icon anymore. What are you doing differently?
