32bit firefox update v72.01 to v73 wont work (Solved)

I can't update the 32bit firefox v72.01 to v73 on my 32bit slacko57 npae system.

The update seems to work but clicking the restart button at the end gives an apologetic message & no working firefox

I am using a Dell Latitude D630 computer grub-booted and shared with Windows XP. The system has worked well for many years

Is my 32bit system at end of life?

Anybody else have similar issues?

I believe my intel core-2 Duo CPU supports 64bit operation. If so, what are my best 64bit options.

This was mentioned in this thread here:-

There does seem to be an issue with Firefox 73 in older Puppies
Could be a bug which they might fix, meantime, revert or use the esr Firefox.
Consider using a more recent Puppy if possible, could still be 32bit or use 64bit if you want to be more future-proof, especially with regard to browsers.

Consider palemoon 28.8.3 as an alternative to firefox current. I'm happy with palemoon browser in all my puppies. But it has not DRM support.

I ran into the same problem with Precise-light. I had to use upgrades from tahrpup-6.0.5:
  • atk
    at-spi2-atk
    cairo
    glib
    gnutls
    gtk+3
    libtasn1
    libxkbcommon
    nss
    wayland
which also got Vivaldi working. I doubt that would work in Slacko but Oscartalks is right, Firefox-esr should still work.

I recently posted Tahr64-light for older ram limited machines and all the latest browsers seem to be working in it..

Best of Luck, J

Thank you all for your replies.

I am now checking out Oscartalk's suggestion of Firefox-esr which has got me up and running again :D

I downloaded it from the link given by jrb:
