Toshiba 100CS Laptop installable??

#1 Post by Guest »

I have an old Toshiba 100CS/528 lappy with 16m ram and a 4 gig hd to play with.
Has anyone installed Puppy on one???
Is it possible to upgrade the memory to 64M???

All in all, it is a very clean machine, and the battery pack even holds a decent charge..

I'd hate to scrap it because I couldn't load anything on it other than dos, or Windoze 95/98.

It could be done.
The memory will be 8Mb onboard and 8Mb in the upgrade slot in the bottom.
The max you can install in this machine is 40Mb.

Puppy will almost certainly work if you maxed out the memory and add a swap partition, but some apps will crawl (like seakmonkey) on first load at least.

You will need to remove the 8Mb expansion and add a 32Mb module to upgrade the the total memory to 40Mb. The part number you want to look for is NW2034U (Toshiba) or KTT-610/32 (Kingston) - $15 used on popular auction site and in your country too.

I can probably help you more. I have quite a few machines like this, but the forum isn't the place for the rest of that conversation, so if you want... PM me about it.
