Dialup config: small bugs in GKdial, wvDial

#1 Post by andrew_in_uk »

Dear all;

I spent a happy Saturday getting my Puppy box onto the web at last. Very happy with the result, using lovely fast dillo (mostly) on a dial up connection.

It took a bit longer to get pppd going than I thought, because of a couple of things that weren't obvious to me (even reading the documentation).

So, just to share them before I forget:-

1) - GKdial
- using the gui, this was adding the isp name TWICE to the call command. This resulted in the 2nd occurrence of the name being interpreted as an unknown option. Consequently the dialout failed.
- once I'd spotted it, easy to fix by editing the call command in the gui to omit the isp name.

2) - wvDial
- the automatically generated config file had "; " added to the starts of the isp name, username, and phone numbers. These prevent wvDial from recognising them as correct when you try to dial out. Seems fine once I took them out.

Sorry if this is written up somewhere I should have seen;

best regards,

A

(looking forward to 1.0.5. !)
