Howto run external 56K USB hardware modem on Puppy 1.0.5?

#1 Post by Fox7777 »

We need to set up a computer (Asus A7S333 MB, AMD Athlon processor) with a Best Data 56USBP external USB modem. The modem works good on Suse 9.3 (which shows it as a Conexant Systems (Rockwell) USB ACF Modem). It doesn't look like the Puppy 1.0.5 modem wizard covers this (though we tried the different options to be sure). Clicking on gkdial, etc. gives us no connection. How do we get this modem connected to the internet?

Also re. 56K V90 external serial hardware modems on Puppy Linux, it seems that they either can't connect or they disconnect unexpectedly & it is hard to get back on. 56K V92 external serial modems don't seem to have this problem so it might be the drivers for the V90 modems. If so, can we download drivers to fix the problem & where can we do this? Our Harmony V1456VQE-C V90 external hardware serial modem still frequently disconnects at unexpected times & requires turning the modem off and back on to reconnect. What is the solution here?
