No keyboard NEC Versa P440 laptop (except 1.0.2)

I'm fairly new to Puppy Linux so maybe I'm asking silly things. :-)
I've been using Puppy Linux for a few weeks now and it's wonderful, but there seems to be a problem when I want to use it on my Nec Versa P440 laptop.
The problems are with Puppy 1.0.3 and the new 1.0.4, not 1.0.2 and the problem is that with 1.0.3 when it comes to the point where I have to choose my keyboard layout my keyboard/cursor freezes.
With 1.0.4 when I boot from CD it already freezes when it comes with the message that it can't find a suitable hard drive (because it's from CD) just press Enter key. Pressing Enter doesn't do anything (as well as ctrl alt del).
So does it has anything to do with the linux kernel version?

It's not a big problem but I can only use the 1.0.2 version with my laptop

Good Question

One of our Puppy Masters (there are only two Puppys of such a high status) is also experiencing keyboard problems.

Stay tuned we are working day and night to solve this problem (well I am busy chasing butterflies - but the dedicated Pups are gnawing away at this juicy problem . . . )

You are not alone - will get back to you :)

FYI - I'm having the same problem on a Dell Optiplex GX280 Desktop computer. I just grabbed 1.0.4 (to look at while at work, for possibly using at home), so can't say whether 1.0.3 or 1.0.2.

Hi,

I've the same problem as Tadream with Puppy Linux 1.0.4.

At "the point where I have to choose my keyboard layout my keyboard/cursor freezes".

I'm using the Logitech Cordless Desktop MX keyboard + mouse Set.

Is there any solution or a fix now?

hi,

I solved the problem, the keyboard functioned only, if I connect it to the PS2 port.
If I connect it directly to the USB port Puppy freezes after the keys map selection.
Now I use the USB to PS2 adapter, and Puppy works very well.

nice linux distri, thx :)
