puppy 2.0.2 hangs during boot

#1 Post by ajfan »

My computer will no longer boot into either puppy 2.0.2 or puppy 2.0. My computer also has windows 98 loaded. My computer is a 6 year old Toshiba Satellite 2800-s202. After the problem started, I was also unable to get windows to boot up. It would hang at the windows splash screen. I was able to go into safe mode and after a great deal of working in msconfig I was able to get windows 98 to boot by disabling my modem. I suspect maybe the modem has developed a problem and causing a conflict.

What would be the equivalent way to be able to boot puppy in "safe" mode? How can I try to disable the modem in puppy to see if that solves the puppy boot problem also?

Can you boot from CD?

You have several options at the CD boot menu where you can toggle things on and off.

I can not boot from CD on this computer. Any other thoughts? Is there a boot parm that I could alter in GRUB that would cause puppy to boot in equiv to safe mode?

Someone else would have to instruct you re. hacking into GRUB to make that happen.

Can you boot from USB or a SB card on that computer? Those may be possible
alternatives to the absense of a CD boot.

Smart Boot manager can boot a CD - if Bios can ID location

Alternatively - use a frugal install
Please see How-Tos & recent Forum posts for either
