You can also run it from a usb flash card. The universal installer (start > setup > universal installer) can install it for you. You might have to experiment to find out exactly which options work for your card though.
You don't have to use a multisession disk, unless you want to save to that disk. You could also run from a normal disk and save to a usb-stick, or just not save.
Also, Sunburnt has made a Lan-Puppy, which boots from Lan. I've never used it, but it sounds pretty cool.

Start
The usual start is burn Puppy ISO on CD. If you burn with "enable multisession" (or similar option), then you can use even a CD-R for saving files (using a DVD-RW or CD-RW drive).
If you have only CD-R drive, then use USB flash for saving files. If you wish, and if your PC can boot from USB, you can install Puppy to USB as Pizza described it. Then all you need is your USB flash for both booting and saving.
