No. After you type the three menu lines at the grub prompt, then type a fourth command
>boot

OK.
Typed the 3 commands.
Typed, 'boot'

THEN.......................this was returned:

Usage:init
Init is the parent of all processes

Kernel panic-not syncing: VFS Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0)

..Keeps getting better and better..............

Type the four grub lines again, but change the second line to:

kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/ ram0 PMEDIA=idehd ide=nodma

Change the first line to just
root (hd0,0)

Did you try this same CD in other machines? Just so we know that it was a good burn.

Too bad. To summarize:

1. You can't boot the Live CD off your external drive.
2. The GRLDR loader couldn't find your menu.lst file
3. Manually typing the Puppy boot commands caused a kernel panic.

The only other thing I can suggest is to try some other bootable Linux CDs and see if they work. One choice would be the gparted partition editor.

What a way to start the new year!

oh, well///
Thanks for trying. Appreciate it.
Anyway, I didn't mention, that in troubleshooting this yesterday, I was able to get to the install menu's of VECTOR LINUX. I chose not to continue because I really liked PUPPY'S small size.

If I install VECTOR, would it be easier to then install PUPPY on top of it?
