add on facilities

#2 Post by Lobster »

:) Sounds good Todd.

I was going to use the amazing MU based Muppy as the basis for Linux Tmxxine Unleashed but I think your puplet might be a good start . . .

If you remove the top two lines from this URL
(right click to get the HTML code)
http://tmxxine.com/tmx008/tmxxine.html
(and the bottom graphic) - add your own graphics, this would make a good way to offer online apps and add on facilities . . .

I can help with the HTML if you wish

Very interesting

#3 Post by raffy »

Very interesting, Todd. Say, how does this differ from the 50+ MB iPup 1.02 that you built recently?

BTW, is MUT large? Pmount can't mount my USB flash devices.

Edit: No problem it is easy to add MUT.

Relation between Litepup and iPup

#4 Post by Todd »

Litepup and iPup are exactly the same except that iPup has Firefox and a modified menu. When I asked Barry for permission to spin off iPup, I told him I would maintain Litepup as well.

Todd

P.S.: MUT is not very large. My focus has been to remove redundancies. It turns out not all redundancies can be removed, but I have tried.

Sound drivers

#8 Post by Todd »

The sound drivers can be found in the zdrv_212.sfs file. This can be found in the ibiblio archive at http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... uppylinux/.

In regards to the menu, iPup contains the cleaned up menu. Litepup was purposely left with the empty spaces to that you can add whatever you want using pupget, remaster the cd/dvd and have your own distro. To get rid of the empty spaces yourself, simply change to the root directory and edit the .jwmrc file, adding "<!-- " and " -->" to the sides of any entry you want to remove.

I extracted the source code from your website and added the beautiful logo you made for Litepup a while back. What is your idea?

You probably noticed that I killed pupfiles.info. I have a theory that only (at best) 30% of what I try actually works. After the initial burst, nobody was looking at pupfiles.info. Like I said, I expect most of what I do to fail, so this was fine. I try a lot so that I can find something that works. It seems Litepup has been the most successfull of my Puppy ventures, so colaborating with you on it would be wonderful. Would you like to host this collaboration on your website? Would you like the domain pupfiles.info to forward to it? Would you like me to see about registering litepup.com, info, net or org?

After adding the sound drivers I must admit this is impressive Todd. Nice and compact but with the ability to add with no headaches.

Pmount does seem to not see my usb drive either.

On a personal note I'd prefer no paint package so I could add gimp, other than that I'm finding this faultless.

Thankyou

LitePup is an up to date "Barebones". It is that simple. What you might do is make the index.html you have created, the offline default for LitePup.
When people are ready they can use the online apps (connection permitting) and add facilities such as browser, window manager, graphics package etc.
You probably noticed that I killed pupfiles.info. I have a theory that only (at best) 30% of what I try actually works.
So the more prolific, the more success - as you go on to say . . .

here is fine

:)

I would suggest familiarizing yourself with t2 and if you have the resources working towards a 64bit LitePup . . .
(you are already ahead of me as I have only just manged to use unleashed - simple when you know how)

T2

Ed:

I think you are right. I have contemplating delving into T2 to create a Spanish Puppy. With your request for a 64bit Puppy, I now have two reasons to brave T2. (I have to tell you I am scared of T2.)

T2 is not a Terminator Series 2

Read this from Barry . . .
"The real Puppy, the mascot for Puppy Linux, was a very tiny dog, a Chihuahua, but totally fearless. He didn't seem to know that he was vulnerable because of his small size. Once when my sister was visiting my country property, she brought her Blue Heeler, a very solid middle-sized dog named Muti. We were out walking, and suddenly there was a substantial rustling of branches of a large bush, something was in or behind the bush. Muti took fright and ran back behind the legs of my sister, whereas Puppy got into launch position in front of the bush and barked furiously. It turned out to be my dad playing a trick on the dogs. Puppy used to chase kangaroos and other big wild animals. Anyway, Puppy Linux is like that, reckless, unshackled, in memory of the mascot, even though we know there's some risk." 8)

and then take the plunge - I have sfs to work out and the release of a genuine distro with unleashed before I join you . . .

Changing the subject a bit, how do I get iPup and Litepup listed on the puppylinux.org download page?

I have a couple questions, first is Dillo included in the iPup iso file? If it is I would really appreciate the list of dependencies. I would like to start from something like iPup, but I don't want Abi, Dillo, or MTpaint as I intend to use OO, GimpShop, and Firefox. Still this is better than starting with the standard 2.12 which has the weighty Seamonkey as well. Also is Geany included? I really need Geany, when I Geany Leafpad goes completely unused. Maybe I looking for a really, really, really lite Pup. Perhaps I should just go the unleashed route. If I do I could still use your dependency list as this is close to a good starting point for me?
Thanks for any help,
CAn8v

Dillo is needed by Puppy for the sound setup script. AbiWord is tied to GimpPrint such that GimpPrint won't work if AbiWord isn't there. About the only thing you can ditch is mtPaint. However, I left it in so that I can create screenshots.
