Great work guys and gals...

#1 Post by ChiJoan »

Hi,

I've been doing my share to help Puppy grow on DistroWatch Weekly and on the UbuntoLite forum. I hope the author doesn't mind my copying something I read in the UbuntoLite forum today.

Thanks for Puppy,
ChiJoan

I have a machine that I was testing UL 1.1 on, a K6 400MHz, 64MB RAM, a
40x CD-ROM on the secondary mobo IDE channel and the HDD on a PCI
UDMA33 card. (the mobo primary IDE is flakey) UL boots fine, sees the
drive on the PCI card, but doesn't partition or install onto it. UL
seems to be way too automated and could use some sanity checks ("Do you
really wanna blow away the whole HDD?" is sorely lacking) to make
things more functional. Are there any CD boot options to specify a
target disk? Any way to stop the autoscript?

Puppy crashes when trying to boot the machine, but Ubuntu and Win2k and
FreeBSD went on smoothly, so I'm doubting it's the hardware. It's
probably to do with the smaller distro's not having great support for
multiple IDE busses. The card is a Promise brand, so it should be
quite solid.
