Puppy doesn't recognize USB floppy

#1 Post by b1381 »

My notebook uses a USB floppy, and when I tried to create a Wake2Pup disk, the application fails to allow for /mnt/sda or /dev/sda.

I also tried to format a blank floppy from the menu, and this application also fails to see the floppy.

When I check the drives, it shows the floppy as
sda:FD-05PUW
/mnt/sda
vFat

I don't have an answer but I'd recommend changing the subject of your post (click on the "edit" button of your post)

If you write something like "How to mount USB floppy drive?" You may have a better chance that someon that has done that will respond.

rarsa,

You did not understand my posting.

The floppy is mounted, as is indicated by the last 4 lines of my post, but the utilities appear to only look for a standard floppy drive.

I was simply mentioning that the utilities failed to see the usb floppy drive, and considering the path of new hardware, it might be prudent to recognize the usb device.

OK. But my suggestion to change the subject of your post stands. (you're welcome)

b1381, what I think rarsa is trying to tell you is that there are many new posts in the Puppy Linux forum every day. If you want yours to be read and acted on, it is good practice to make a subject line less vague than yours, so that it reflects the contents of the post as clearly as possible; and perhaps spend a bit more time rereading and editing your post so that it gets your point across without making the reader puzzle over what you're trying to say. :)

I assumed that the post was standing tall spam until I saw that someone I recognised had posted to the thread....

Descriptive subject lines are always a good idea.

hahaha, I guess that reading Enhancement and floppy on the subject does not help isn't it?

b1381, my suggestion is meant to help you, not to flame.

Yes. There are key words to avoid in a subject line. Anything involving cellphones, expensive merchandise, or medicinal-type stuff. Those things will make people assume the post is spam. Also, some of them get automatically replaced with "poisonous crap".

The idea to substitute "poisonous crap" for spam words was mine, in desperation when we used to get a lot of spam. I think all that was left behind when John upgraded the forum software. There has been very little spam since then, so I haven't felt the need to change things to say "poisonous crap."

I must say that the word "Enhancement" in the subject line of this thread didn't ring any alarm bells. It didn't occur to me that the post might be spam.
