When you boot, there should be some verbiage in the beginning about log files, two in /tmp and one in /initrd/tmp. Take a look at those and see if you find any problems.

"x restart", are you saying it dumps you at the command line?

Same Problem for a while

I had the same issue, doing this about 6 or 7 times. I played with .xinitrc, replacing it with the one out of Puppy 212 and it fixed this. Then I went back to original Puppy 213 .xinitrc after a while of doing other things, all was cured.

When your using X restart from the menu, it's restarting ROX desktop and my desktop icons and backdrop came back, but next time I rebooted same thing again. JWM is up and running, so I had menu.

I have a somewhat faster computer, a AMD XP 3000+, this may or not, have had something to do with this.

I never truly found the cause, another one of our machines, a AMD 64 3400+, did it just twice and then no more.

It's weird, Kal

Maybe you should put solved with a ? mark on this.
Good Luck, Kal

PS: BarryK knows of this, but could not reproduce it on his machines.
