using bittorrent client behind a proxy server

How in the world can you get (if possible) bittorrent to run behind a proxy server?
there is 1 otha post wit this question, but not current and its sugesstion dint work

Please anybody help

(Im a complete newbie to linux, so Kiddy instructions would be great)
