Puppy 2.13 problems & limewire

#1 Post by newbie_tom »

Hi folks

I am currently trying out puppy 2.13 and having some problems - this is my first go with any OS other than windows so its all new to me (2days experience!)

I am having problems with my system crashing - it appears to be while i am using Limewire.

Ok, so system spec: AMD64 dual core; 1GB ram; 512MB Geforce 6800; lots of hard drive space.

Software: Puppy 2.13, Firefox 2.0.1, Limewire Pro, Open office.org.

The problem i am having seems to be when running limewire. It runs ok at first then will cause my system to freeze - only option to switch PC off.

However i left it on downloading last night with limewire and it reports a disk error. (but all downloads 100%) Its almost like something is running out of space somewhere - but it shouldnt be as far as i can see.

I have a 3Gb swap partition, 1GB ram and limewire set to write to a separate drive (both incomplete and complete files - this drive has 450GB free space) i also have 527MB free on my pupsave file.

it seems like a very similar problem to the one VinceIP is having; see this thread
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic ... 12&t=14609

Incidentally i am also having the same problem as vinceIP in that many apps simply won't run - i click on them and nothing; not even an error message. examples include Tuxracer and Pracer and Ace of penguins games (ace of penguins gives game selection menu then nothing)

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tom

What version of Java have you installed? Limewire is a Java App

Hi Rob

For info

I am running Sun Java 1.5.0_08; as downloaded from this forum

I started with the limewire.pup from here but added my paid for pro version - both seem to be behaving the same (just double checking at the mo)

Limewire i am running Limewire Pro 4.12 ; i just downloaded from limewire and copied into a folder - works ok by the looks of it.

Have you tried installing the full java from Sun?

Hi rarsa

not really sure how to install the full thing  any advice??

I suspect that java may be the issue here though, i've noticed that after limewire has thrown in the towel firefox cant download any files either - it completes the download instantly and does nothing as far as i can see.

The only other thing i could think is that maybe its trying to write somewhere that there is no space - but as i said limewire is downloading incomplete and complete files to a separate drive with loads of free space

As for the problems with things not loading i have cured that, ran in console and found out i was missing a library; now got some stunning 3d graphics working :D :D
