How I installed Java, Tonicpoint and Seamonkey Java plugin

#1 Post by Matu »

Hi all!

First of all let me apologize for my poor english. Please be patient and read the following with care :D .

I'm using Puppy only from the latest version and trying to be familiar with it (its easy :D ). So I decided to install Java to enable Java in Seamonkey and to use Tonicpoint, a Java-based slideshow viewer. At that time I had poor experience with Puppy and the forum, so I downloaded the latest Java package from Sun and extracted it to /usr/java. I run the installer (following the instructions from the Sun website) and got a 85Mb directory.

Seamonkey:
I symlinked the libjavaplugin_oji.so from /usr/java/jre1.5.0_10/plugin/i386/ns7 to the /usr/lib/seamonkey-1.0.6/plugins directory (simply dragged and dropped libjavaplugin_oji.so from one to another and from the menu choosed Link (relative). Then I enabled Java in Seamonkey (Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Enable Java) restarted the browser and tested the installation at http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp website. Worked fine. Now I know that there is a pup file from Java: "http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=5448"

Tonicpoint:
I downloaded the latest .jar file from http://tonicsystems.com/products/viewer/ and copied it to /usr/java/jre1.5.0_10/lib. Then I right-clicked on the tonicpoint.jar file, choosed "Set run action" and typed /usr/java/jre1.5.0_10/bin/java -jar "$@" to the shell command line. After that I dropped the tonicpoint.jar file to the desktop clicked on it and everything worked fine. All description above is based on these forum threads "http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 2&start=15".

I hope you can use this description with success.

Best,
Matu

Very useful

This is very useful information - it can qualify as how-to, so perhaps Flash will put it there. :)

Thanks!
