wont start with 32mb ram

#1 Post by rex »

i got an old pentium 233mmx with 32mb ram and currently running win98.
it run nicely on my other pc with 128mb ram.

my 2gb harddrive is running out of space for win98 and all other stuffs with only 200 megs free space.
so i cant re-partition it to create a swap partition.

can i create a swap file instead? so if i'm not using puppy, i can delete the swap file.
or, can it use windows swap file instead?

what can i do to make it run on 32mb ram?

t.i.a.

No, Puppy currently only finds a Linux swap partition, not a swap file.

Maybe in a future version...

So, you will have to create a Swap partition for Puppy to work in 32M ram. Alternatively, you can install Puppy on the hard drive, but to do that without booting up the live-CD first is a problem... back on the old forum there are solutions posted to that ...they temp moved the hard drive to another pc to install Puppy.

re-32MB of ram

#3 Post by ezeze5000 »

You can slim up Win 98 by dumping all but a couple of the system bit map files and all but a couple of system wav files, then back up all doc's and pics to another hard drive, then do a disk cleanup and de-frag.

This should clear up enough drive space for your linux swap partition.

This is what I had to do on an old PC of mine.

I hope this helps.

I don' think so. I bet however you could do the hard drive partitioning and formatting with System Rescue CD
