Running 2.13 live cd file save on h drive. Lap is a gateway mx3410.

Looking to get sound happenin..

Alsa sez it finds hda-intel 00.10.1 Class 0403: 10de:026c (rev a2)

Go thru setup, sez things ok

Pup still shy to speak.

What to do next? (also tried all the legacy things & they all say..no joy)

Ok, ran across alsamixer. info that come up

Hmmm Ok, so master is the volume control & was turned off.

Now its on

hmmm, another graph bar shows up in alsamixer & is lit up!

sez on the bottom 100<>100 pcm What the heck is that?

Turns out that 100<>100 just indicates ~level..low to hi & 100<>100 is high.

Still, what is pcm? How or why did it show up?

Also have control over the 'Capture' bar graph, though no idea what its for?

Don't have any control over IEC958. What's that about?

I think capture is for input devices such as your microphone (if you have one)

In alsamixer you use spacebar to enable device and up and down arrows to alter the Db. Tab ot left/right arrows take you between devices if you keep tabbing across you usually find more devices than are visible at first.
