KERNEL WARNING

#1 Post by ozsouth »

If you downloaded my 5.4.10-s64oz kernel, uploaded earlier today (forum time), please discard it. An hour after uploading, I had a significant crash & hard lockup, with no other obvious cause. I had previously been using my 5.4.7 kernel for a week without issue.

EDIT - Kernel post was here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 05#1047305

How about a link to the forum post where you uploaded that kernel.

Gulp, the latest EasyOS, 2.2.3, has kernel 5.4.10:

:?
I am using it now, it is ok so far.

scsijon has been studying the changelogs of the 5.4 kernel, he is convinced something is seriously wrong with usb drive handling. He has been having problems with EasyOS and earlier 5.4.x kernels, was hoping 5.4.10 has fixed his problem, as he says there were "usb timing" patches for 5.4.9.

My .config file, with fake .gz, is attached.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

@barryk - wow - your DOTconfig is 34k smaller than mine. That's optimised!
I did use the kernel kit I normally use for 4.x.x kernels to make 5.4.10, so that may be the issue. Also, Peebee made an lxpup64 5.4.10 kernel yesterday & no reports of issues. His DOTconfig is similar size to mine. I made a 5.4.8 kernel this morning (some important fixes) with similar DOTconfig to yesterday's & have run today without incident. With that I used the kernel-kit-master from woof-ce github.
