Can't restore Puppy USB key

#1 Post by paulsiu »

I backed up my USB key by zipping it. Recently, I had a problem where the USB key was destroyed. I unzip the files to a new USB key, but it complain that it cannot boot.

Is this because the boot sector isn't backed up? Does anyone have a good way of backing up USB keys?

Thanks.

Paul

Hi paulsiu; A boot sector must be setup by a utility, sys, syslinux, or Grub.
An image BU utility might do it, making an image of part the chosen partition.
I don't know what you'd use to do this, but if you or I find out... POST IT HERE!

My choice is a setup script that FAT32 formats & systemizes the USB & installs the the 4 Puppy files to it (the fourth being the Save file).
A GUI utility to make a BU CD from a chosen Puppy install would be nice.
