puppy locked up, need virtual terminal help?

#1 Post by o4tuna »

Puppy locked up when I started mplayer.
I had an unsaved document in geany, so I didn't want to reboot.
I remembered that ctrl alt F1 would start a new virtual terminal, where I could run ps & kill the other running programs (firefox, seamonkey, rox, mplayer gkrellm)

Hmmm, it doesn't show any of those running.

Hmmmm, how do I get back???

Dug out an old linux book, it says ctrl alt F2. Asks for root login & password. Is there a default? nothing seems to work, even tried the info I set up in puplock.

hit ctrl alt F1 again, back to that terminal again, tried xwin, loads x, but at a lesser resolution...

So, is it possible my geany doc is still out there somewhere open?
How do I get back there?
What is the default login & password?

Please help?

after hitting CTRL-ALT-F1
login is root there is no password
the command ps will show the running processes
use kill ???? where ???? is the process number
do ps again to check it has really been killed
you might need to use kill -9 ???? for some processes
to get back to graphical environment
CTRL-ALT-F3
