PeaZip 2.9.beta

#46 Post by giorgiotani »

PeaZip 2.9.beta was released today, the new version improves the file manager and updates the backend binaries to FreeArc 0.60 and UPX 3.04.
http://peazip.sourceforge.net/index-next.html

Alongside for testing, the beta version is meant to give time to people willing to contribute a translation (that I thanks in advance!) to provide language files to be included in 2.9 packages.

The guide for translation is available in this package: https://sourceforge.net/projects/peazip ... p/download
Newer translations are made available, as soon as they are provided, at: https://sourceforge.net/projects/peazip/files/ in "PeaZip translations" group.

I went here: http://peazip.sourceforge.net/

It says version 3.3

When I click on the Puppy version link I get this:
Il servizio di hosting per questo dominio è stato sospeso.

You can find a .pet for version 3.1 on this page. Alternately, you can do a websearch for a portable Linux version of Peazip, but you'd need to manually place it somewhere and make the appropriate links (at least, a desktop link), and I couldn't guarantee it'd work without requiring any additional dependencies.

That eventually leads to a link which requires validation that jumps out to some stupid survey nonsense that asks for all sorts of personal information - and when you try to break out of it then it crashes Seamonkey.

Is there just a simple link to a simple download of PeaZip somewhere, please?

The ziddu.com link near the bottom of the page? I didn't have a problem when I originally followed it in Seamonkey, a while back. Though, I will admit that I do have Adblock active. :)

I tried it again, just to test. Followed the link, clicked the Download button. The next page has a captcha image - entered the code there in the "Verification Code:" text box, and clicked the Download button, again. The file-save dialog box opened, and I saved the file.
It did try to open a full-screen window ad/whatever, but all I saw of that was a blank window that I could simply close, probably due to Adblock.

I will add Adblock and try again.

BTW: Have you tried "Better Privacy" as well?

Just wondering how well it works and if it creates any problems.

Thanks!

I can't remember whether I've tried it, or not (or even whether it has a Firefox version - in FF, I basically use Adblock Plus and NoScript). I haven't had much luck with extensions in Seamonkey/Mozilla Suite, unfortunately. The only other extension I've ever really tried (because I didn't have a problem installing it :D) is one that re-adds the Home button to the main toolbar. :)

The simplest thing, for peazip, is just download the standalone linux version, extract it wherever you want, symlink the contained peazip executable to /usr/bin, then, for whatever archives you want to use it for, set the run action to use peazip.

C'mon, that's not the simplest method. :D I'll admit I've been meaning to get around to trying the portable version method for a while, if just to have the latest version... :)

For a novice, however, the simplest method would be to install a .pet. :)

(Isn't there a risk that those who want to try the portable version method might not have all of the dependencies, come to think of it? Of course, I don't know how many or little dependencies it needs... )

Dear puppians

I'll contact soon Giorgio Tani to change the link on peazip page (actually it redirects to http//puppylover.netsons.org that was old host, new host for dokupuppy wiki is now

http://dokupuppylinux.co.cc)

old host (in Italy) was not reliable so I changed

I was too busy with job last months, Now I back to puppy.

regard to ziddu, I'm looking for an hosting with no adds or captcha, meanwhile I use ziddu since it allows very long permanece of files on its server

Megaupload I think will be a fair choice (but it even in premium version) has no hotlinks and it needs code to insert in order to download, so I'm looking for

excuse me for long absence, Now I'll package latest version of peazip

I've packaged version 3.4 for GTK2, if anyone wants it. I use it on Lucid Puppy 511, and other than the help menu everything seems to work well.

It's about 9 MB as a pet, maybe 23 MB or so installed or otherwise extracted.

EDIT: I uploaded and linked to version 3.5 one post down.

Version 3.5 for GTK2, tested successfully on Lucid Puppy 511 and on Puppy 431:

The dotpet is 8.2 MB, installed it's 23 MB.

EDIT: Uploaded version 3.6.1 in the next post.

Hello Giorgiotani,

I'm curious why, with an encrypted archive, the windows version of peazip needs the password once, whereas the linux version needs it twice?
