Toshiba Tecra A6 won't boot 2.14 from CD.

#1 Post by RVcook »

Toshiba tecra A6, 2 GB ram, Win & Ubuntu dual boot.
Downloaded Puppy Sea Monkey 2.14 and verified burn iso.
Go to Boot from cd
Starts to load
Last 6 lines

ERROR, cannot find puppy on 'idecd'boot media
pupmode=1 pdev1=
exited to initial-ramdisk (/dev/ram0) command line...
(the linux-guru can now debug, 'e3' editor is available)
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
#

Please detail what's next to be able finish the live DVD boot. Do I need to type a line of instruction after th #?

some people, that have had problems booting puppy on toshiba, have reported success by disabling pcmcia. do a forum search for:

Carried over from dup post:

I went to the forward suggested and tried the "nopcmcia" at #, also the string
"puppy acpi=strict acpi=noirq pci=biosirq pci=nosort irqpoll routeirq" no quotes and still nada, zip, zilch. I googled again and found the same things as before I posted yesterday. most had to do with Ubuntu and I installed it sucessfully. Puppy, I want to use as a live CD.

Toshiba Tecra A6 - T 2300 - 1.66 w/ 2 GB ram

This is how new I am, most of the google had to do with a busy box is that applicable with me???

Any other suggestions would be really appreciated and thanks to John for getting back to me.

I'm really glad to start getting my computer life back and will feel even better with the solution and the satisfaction of accomplishment even if I needed help. Glad to be back in the saddle again after 35 years.

the stock standard questions are:

1) does the md5sum of the iso check OK?

2) do other bootable cd's work on your computer OK?

3) does puppy cdrom boot OK on another computer?

assuming you've answered yes to all above, have you looked at this thread?

Try the procedure described in this thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 6&start=15
It involves copying the four core Puppy files from the CD to your hard drive and burning a GRUB boot CD to start Puppy.
